Its a Crook! Er, ah Book!
Dec 2nd, 2008 by BohemianMoon

(Ding! Ding! Ding! If you picked worm/s you would be correct…..3 Peppermint Hershey Kisses for you, or a shot of Bowmore Scotch, your call!)
The show starts with the ever worldly Jon and Kate on the couch with Jon explaining to the masses what “PR” means -public relations-(who woulda thunk?) Thanks Jon, your kindness knows no bounds as I was just about to open my Webster’s to see what that acronym was REALLY all about. Not only did you clue me in on what PR means, but you clued me in on what Central Park is too! Your sophistication is simply mind boggling!
Jon and Kate now move on to the reason for the en mass definition of PR and Central Park, the “Mini book crook tour” in the Big Apple. The ever grateful duo can’t, of course, get through on episode EVER without blathering one way or another how how hard it is. The strife du jour revolves around the fact that when they are doing the “talk circuit” they have to endure waiting in small greenrooms (there is a word for you Jon) backstage. Oh boo freakin’ who! Here is a an idea for you Einstein, do your swindling sans kids and not only will you have more room for your ego inflated heads, the kids will get a break from being dragged from their home once again, and more importantly will get a much needed break from the ever invasive cameras.
The couch drone continues with neither Jon nor Kate being exactly sure whose book it is as Jon continually states to Kate “Your book” only to have Kate correct him (what? Kate correct Jon?) stating it is “their book”. All of this after Kate stating herself constantly that it is her book.
Are these people EVER consistent?
One thing is crystal clear, though, neither of their mouths are uttering a word about Beth Carson’s book! My book, your book, our book, any book but Beth’s book (do da, do da). A bit on the curious side I would say as it is evident from the show that neither Jon nor Kate can string together a cohesive sentence, particularly without made up words. Someone wrote that book, but it wasn’t Jon or Kate. The Gosselins are many things (con artistss, child exploiters, “Christians” come to mind), but wordsmiths? Not so much. So the Gosselins once again leave out props and thanks where they are due. Such a warm and fuzzy “What would Jesus do?” for the Gosselin legacy. The children will be so proud. Almost as proud as knowing that their bowel movements and bathing habits will live in the infamy of television re-runs, DVDs, Youtube and Ipods everywhere.
Forever.
Right as I was about to start counting the times that Kate says she wrote the book for the kids (if you have read the book, that is one scary thought. It is a 208 page whine fest that says some not too nice things about her pregnancy and her kids) Jon throws me a bone and…..
Ear perk!
What? What did you say Jon and Kate?
I could have SWORN you just said that people think that cameras just follow you around, was that right? Yes, THANK YOU, that IS what I thought I heard you say, and it IS what your fans fools say!
(RU-ROH)
But, but, but, Jon and Kate, so very many of your fans fools have defended you for YEARS (did I mention fools?) saying that the children are, in fact, NOT working; that the cameras just follow the family around while you do your normal every day things like you know, flying hither, thither and yon to a new luxury vacay destination, performing in a staged mockery of sacred vows and/or bitching about selling your donated items so you can donate that bitch money to charity. So Ma and Pa Gosselin, a big thanks for setting the record straight for those fans fools of yours that have been defending your honor for so long.
If this is the “hardest job ever” for Ma and Pa Kon, I do have to wonder how hard it is for 8 small children.
(Too bad the roles aren’t reversed and it was your 8 little kids that were selling you off to the highest corporate bidder, eh? Now THAT would be must see TV!)
“Nice to get away from home every now and then”……………..WHHHAAATTT? I would be surprised that your kids even know what home is, they spend so little time there.
The utter sophistication of Ma and Pa is almost overwhelming! Jon humbles himself to exlain what PR means (uh, he got it wrong) and what Central Park is.
The real question is: How long was the Wii on Kmart layaway?

Excellent recap! I watched the show last night. You are so right the kids are working. I don’t care want their fans say. It will be very interesting 10 years from now to see how these kids turn out. They will be able to google their parents and see everything that was ever written about them. I just hope with all the money the kids are making some of it will be put in a trust for them.
I also find it amazing that Kate doesn’t credit Beth with writing the book(b/c you know Beth wrote and edited that book).
Have a great day and keep up the good work!!!!
Great recap! I was shocked last night at all the blatant justifications they were trying to make-like saying over and over how ‘used to traveling the kids are’ and ‘how much they enjoy it’. Just b/c they go to Central Park to play for an hour every time doesn’t mean they enjoy being pulled out of school or riding a chartered bus for hours on end and being paraded around constantly for cameras and fans. In the midst of all the justifying J+K were admitting to how much they work, how much the kids are dragged to ‘events’ for TLC, etc. to promote the show, book, and other things, and just how unbalanced the poor kids family life really is. Are the producers of this show morons or just really into making the family look worse and worse?
I thought I could no longer be shocked by Kate’s ego-but to keep claiming credit for the book and to have no mention of Beth Carson is simply amazing to me. There are no limits to what this woman will do!
Great recap.
However, I thought the kids were exceptionally cute in this episode. “Don’t call me buddy, Call me Leah” That was too cute.
I also understand getting a bus to avoid driving and parking. I HATE driving in big cities and I can see why they’d rent a bus. Am I lightening up on them???? Hell no!
Very funny. Jon says “hardest job” but the kids don’t work??? Yeah, who are they trying to kid. Small “greenroom”, awwwwww! Maybe they need to build one just for the Gosselin clan.
Beth? Whose Beth? The friend that Kate had such a special relationship? The woman whose husband gave Jon a JOB??? Oh yeah, HER. Well, we don’t need her anymore so she no longer exists. Ok.
700 club. AN ENTIRE HOUR!! Oh my!!
Guess what, KATE, I WORK 8 HOURS A DAY. 5 days a week. Week after week after week.
You’re complaining about 1 fucking hour!!! Priceless.
Amen, Moon!
The show was exactly what I thought it would be too. A lot of justifying and trying to keep up with the manipulation. You could tell it was hard on Kate to act like she is a nice person. You are right B’Moon a lot of damage control is all that I got out of it. This show has turned into an infomercial and a joke! I just hope that these little kids come out of it ok whenever it is over.
Lordy be Moon!
I didn’t watch last night ( woohoo!) but couldn’t help thinking I would probably miss something monumental (not!).
Seems to have been more talking out both sides of ones mouth, more of Jon being chastised (what? Kate never hit him? Not even once?), more blatant self promotion (Not sure why they are paying the big bucks to the *PR* firm when they seem to have the *SP* firmly under control), more favoritism, more product placement. Did I mention more changes in the story? These two should run for public office.
This family is a walking/talking commercial. They are *working* even when they aren’t *working*.
Working the angles.
Glad to see the book has slipped to #16 on the New York Times “bestseller” list. I wouldn’t read the book if it were given to me, let alone shell out any of my hard earned cash to buy it. I just find it so strange that Beth, as the author of this book, has completely disappeared off the face of the earth. To not even mention her name. Course if I were Beth and had been taken advantage of by these two, I would want to distance myself as far away as I could get. What I do not understand is how can anyone be so dumb to not see what is going on with this couple. To continue to put their hands out for “love offerings”/ handouts, all while moving into a 1+ million dollar home, just blows my mind! If it wasn’t so sad, it would actually be laughable. I don’t know the G’s personally, but I do know what I saw of them on their show with my own two eyes. It didn’t take long, (like five minutes), to see what was going on with these two con artists. Yet those, who vehemently defend them will constantly argue, “oh but they have eight kids.” This goes way beyond a family struggling to keep their head above water, and trying to put food on the table for ten. It is pure and utter greed with absolutely NO sense of social responsibility.
I didn’t watch the show (recaps are so much better) but the one thing I just don’t get is absolutely no word about Beth. I mean she wrote this book for them and there has been no mention of her on J&K or any of the talk shows they’ve been on. Especially since there is no sound from Beth’s side I really wonder what happened between the two families cause it seems the ties were completely severed. Now if J&K put some legal restriction on Beth (why I have no idea) that could explain the silence but the fact is Beth has 3 kids who no doubt know their way around the internet and are going to be much harder to silence and there is not a peep out of them to. At least one of the older girls was quite involved with the kids so the fact there is no sound about the book or the Gosselins from anyone with the last name of Carson just boggles my mind!
I loved her flinging around her retainer towards the end on the couch. And where is Jenny??
It just occured to me that Beth might not want to be associated with this book. Kate Gosselin is no Erma Bombeck. Not even close, though the grass IS greener over a FREE septic tank. Last night I forgot the 8 was on and I tuned in to see Kate take the candy. Except Hannie-poo’s. Mommy’s widdle helper (ass-kiss) got to save hers. As I was thinking how much I hate some of their kids, I realized I was bored and turned the channel. What kind of a sick creep doesn’t like a little kid??? I console myself with the fact that Kate doesn’t like them much either and she gave birth to them. Too bad for her. At least they make her some bucks.
After the lights go out – can’t you just hear:
“… don’t you know who I AM???”
heard that once in a home town furniture store when a dame
wanted some instant credit and apparently at one time was a
social butterfly.
“don’t you know who I AM??”
Yes Kate, and that’s why you will be treated like CRAP after all this is done. Your children will NOT understand that you “did it for them” because you DID IT FOR YOURSELF! You selfish, bitch.
sorry . . . . .
#1 Tanya~
Besides the obvious potential emotional ramifications of this train wreck for the children, the second thing I worry the most about is the financial ramifications. These children are working, have been working, and as long as their money grubbing parents can continue to sell them, they will continue to be working. Each of them deserve (and should be entitled to) every single cent that they have earned.
And since there are no laws in place for these children (and all children in “reality” tv) I do hope that their parents are doing the right thing by them financially.
I do, obviously, have my doubts about that, though………….I do hope that I am wrong.

*******Are the producers of this show morons or just really into making the family look worse and worse?******
The bottom line is money. The controversy is like gold to them, the kids be damned. This is a business first and foremost, and the producers, as well as Jon and Kate, are going to take it as far as they can.
It is obvious that the shows are staged and Jon and Kate are happily playing along, giving them carte blanche on editing, so they are obviously fine with it.
It is just SAD!
**********I thought I could no longer be shocked by Kate’s ego-but to keep claiming credit for the book and to have no mention of Beth Carson is simply amazing to me. There are no limits to what this woman will do!**********
No, there really isn’t, is there? And what happens when it all comes crashing down……..and it will!
#3 FX~
Regarding the bus, I made note in my recap it because it was ridiculous to me that they even mentioned it and made excuses for why they were using a bus service.
A wee bit of obvious damage control regarding their expenditures, or TLC’s, anyway
#5 Lisa K~
I just that the kids come out ok as well.
Have you read much regarding the Dionne Quintuplets? Particularly in their later years?
The two remaining sisters are still in pain, 60 years later

*************This family is a walking/talking commercial. They are *working* even when they aren’t *working*.
Working the angles.*************
Exactly, and for two parents that have no other job/interests in their lives other than branding the family and making money from that brand, it is a sorry existence indeed.
I truly believe that Kate is so narcissistic that she thinks that this is going to go on forever……….it is not, and they will not be prepared.
#7 Rebecca~
Exactly! GREAT post
Thank you!
#8 ~Bea
I don’t get it either, Bea, but I am sure that Beth signed a confidentiality agreement regarding speaking about the book. I also am sure that this will all come out sooner than later!
Thanks for taking your time to weigh in, you are appreciated

No idea where Jenny was this trip. Perhaps she has come to her senses and flew the bat shit crazy coop!

*****After the lights go out – can’t you just hear:
“… don’t you know who I AM???”****
Exactly! I couldn’t have said it better myself!
WOW, nothing about these two twits surprises me anyore. What I am wondering about the book is……with no mention of Beth on the show or book promo circuit, but her name on the book……..did she get paid for her part in writing it….knowing Kate I think not, or very little. I bet Beth looks at all the blogs around right now and wants to speak out so bad it hurts…so Beth if you are reading this, and I hope you are, I hope your life is filled with peace and calmness without Kates lies, and craziness! Although I bet the absence of the kids in your life is torture!
Was I hallucinating or did both Jon and Kate say several times how much they enjoy getting out and meeting people??? Which people would those be, I wonder.
Who is Beth? I was under the impression that this was ghost-written like almost every book out there by a non-author and the professional author/ghost-writer for the J&K book was Beth — is she somehow connected to the family in another way?
’tis the season to be jolly – let’s hear from Jenny, crew members,
tv hosts, Jodi and Julie and of course, Beth. Expect they could offer some real eye openers. With their recent move – they can’t
hibernate forever – local business owners.
Wonder what kind of holiday the jok’s will have – no family nor
friends to have a drink with. Let’s hope they are planning ahead
and utilizing a realistic budget so when the lights go out – they
don’t cry wolf, although, these cats will never be satisfied and may end up dirt poor. Probably in life, we have all seen either a friend of family member experience these stages in life.

Beth was a volunteer that helped feed the tups after they were born. She and her husband Bob are pretty well off. Kate became “friends” with Beth and Beth was shown on the show often enough the first and second season (?), maybe third too. She and her husband have a rather large house and Kate and Jon would take the kids there on occasion. Also one episode revolved around the Gosselins getting their family protrait at Beth and Bob’s.
One episode showed Beth and Kate at Ikea and Beth was the one that redecorated at the Gosselins. She also used to travel with them at times to help with the tups. Look for the skiing in Utah episode. She was the woman that went with them and is at the spa with Kate. It is also interesting to note her demeanor in that show. As I think that was the beginning of the end.
Oh, yeah, and after Jon got canned from the State job that was created for him by the Governor of PA, he stated he was now working for Bob. Which, of course, didn’t last long.
I am not sure of the time line, but I believe soon after they added Jon’s name to the book. So Kon receives 2/3 of the proceeds.
And after that, except for re-runs, no more Beth.
Oh, and there were rumors that Bob stated if Beth was not getting paid anything for the show, that they were no longer welcome to come and disrupt their home life to film for free……and that, if true, may have been the catalyst of the entire downfall of the Gosselins and Carsons.
I hope that made sense……………..I am just drinking my first coffee of the day (up very late last night with other matters, and slept until almost noon today )
I suspect that Beth wrote the originial draft of the book. Kate then decided to rewrite the book to put it more in”herown words” with Jon’s help. Kate probably tried to get Beth’s name removed from the book, but as Beth had (obviously) signed the contract that was impossible. I like to think that Beth is a classy enough lady that she is keeping her mouth shut on the whole situation because that’s what people with real class do.

Then there was another writer involved (ghostwriter) as Kate is about as capable of writing that book as my dog Daisy…actually Daisy is probably more capable.
Watching them once on the show would clue anyone in on their lack of skills regarding articulation, not to mention intelligence levels.
I hardly think that Kate wrote that book no matter what way once dices it.
Paul Petersen will be on Bill OReilly’s Fri Dec 5.
I just want to note that adding someone’s name as author to a book has no bearing on splitting of royalties. How royalties are divided among multiple authors is something that is negotiated when the contract is signed. Three author does not necessarily mean that royalties are split 33.3% each; it all depends on what they negotiated with their editor.
#30 Louise~
Yes, I am going to put an entry up regarding this, however, since on A Minor Consideration site it is stated that he and Shelly Fabrares are both being interviewed regarding the release of the 50th Anniversary Video of the Donna Reed Show….so I am wondering if that is what this interview is going to focus on for the most part, or if Paul Petersen is going to talk about A Minor Consideration, and one of his recent focuses of same, the Jon and Kate Plus Eight debacle.
#31 Jennifer~
Thanks for that info. It certainly makes sense, of course. I do have to wonder though why they added Jon’s name late in the game? What purpose did that serve I wonder……particularly when the book dedication, that was to Jon, was left intact. Jon, as an author, did not have a dedication to someone.
Do you have any theory on that?
I do not know much about publishing, so any info/insight you could offer is appreciated!
Oh, I feel like I am home! I have been reading or posting much here but I am so glad to be here amongst the sane people. I have spent considerable time at CafeMom and I’m telling you there are a huge hoard of idiot fans there and I would love to blast their stupid asses. Anyway, yes, that Mon. episode was full of inconsistencies and so boring! Wow, if Jon and Kate are working and exhausted how do they justify their 8 minor children working the same hours?! Incredibly stupid. Absolutely no mention of Beth! Again…stupid! You would think that (other than her name being on the book cover) that Beth Carson doesn’t even exist…it is like we just conjured her up out of thin air…she doesn’t need to be mentioned since to Jon and Kate she doesn’t exist. Way to show your kids how to treat people, and especially friends and family (Jodi and Kevin) yes they are setting a fine example! NOT!
Glad I missed this one. I read your post and almost broke out in a chorus of “Eee-i-ee-i-ohhhh!” When you played “Name that author!” Poor Beth. But thanks for the laugh.
Looks like Jon shot and then waved the proverbial smoking gun in everyone’s face. Did he really say that they, (the fanools), just think that the cameras follow them doing regular stuff? And that doing the show is the hardest job he had ever had? Well, if nothing is true unless Jon and Kate personally SAY it is true, a la that oh so articulate and well written post on their old website, then I guess they aren’t doing normal everyday things. Neener neener neener! Jon said so! You’d think TLC just let Jon shoot them all in the foot, er, feet. It does seem that TLC is laughing at them, albeit all the way to the bank. But wait….something is…hmmm…what is wrong with this picture?….Oh yeah. Eight kids are being dragged along for the laughs.

Interesting. I don’t know anything about publishing, or what is exactly going on in this situation, I to have my suspicions. I would think that yes, Beth is a classy lady and has chosen to not speak of this, but I also wonder if the reason we haven’t heard anything from her is a legal thing, maybe she can’t talk about it because of something she may have had to sign.?? Just a thought.

To add to what BoMo said about Beth, her daughter (Carla I believe her name was) also used to help out lots with the Tups. Kate would call her to help entertain them (the painting of the attic episode for Mady and Cara……Kate could not handle playing with her kids as it was saturday and normally Johnny boy helped have fun with the kids on saturday….oh poor over worked kick ass loving mother that she thinks she is, ah I just puked in my mouth, anyway she sat in a lawn chair and bitched about how she just couldnt handle taking care of her kids as she was too tired, and called Carla to come play in the sprinkler with the kids while she watched and bitched….also Carla went to Utah with them as well, was on bunny hill with all 8 kids while Jon snow boarded and Kate was pampered) Funny though Carla went MIA quickly last season, and Beth MIA same time as Aunt Jodi, I believe closer to end of last season. Kate is so cracked out, I cant believe people still think she is god (not literally, but you get my drift) does TLC use subliminal messages and we able to see past them? I don’t even think she is the scum on the ocean floor that Halibut eats, but that is just my opinion of course
Hi, Moon!
Dirty Disher always has a gem or two for us!
About “Hanneeeee”…
Did you notice how Kate led Collin (?) right into that pillar as they were entering Central Park? Such a lovely dayeeeeeeeee… God! I HATE that stupid jingle – when people refer to it as “a song” I want to projectile vomit.
So Kate is holding Hanneeee’s hand, looking lovingly down at her and…BAM! Right smack into the cement post he goes. And she doesn’t miss a beat; she says to her “icky” male child, “Oh you’re o.k. JON! Come and get Collin, he’s HURT…” What an UGLY BITCH. You know, even if (IF) Kate’s looks weren’t half-bad, she’s such a horrible mother and all-around human being – which, by the way, is about ALL she does do – that she becomes even UGLIER wth each ugly thing she does or says. I just can’t believe JOK is so DUMB that, as you said, they truly believe this circus will go on forever; have they seen what the average (and they WILL be average) teen-ager LOOKS LIKE nowadays? Pretty ugly. Television viewers do not like looking at UGLY people.
Then there’s the scene where they’re riding in the horse drawn carriages. Not-so-little Hanneeeee is sitting atop her mother’s knee while the other girls stare, as only a Gosselin can stare, into space, possibly saying under their breath, “I WAS wanted…I WAS wanted…I WAS wanted…”
Oh, there’s just too much that’s SO WRONG. On the Procter and Gamble website tonight, the blurb announcing that the hated-great Kate Gosselin will be giving tips on “saving money”, one of the posters was just beside her 14-year-old self with pity because people like US got there first and gave JOK a run for their millions (with great truthful comments) and actually said, “How many of YOU have 8 kids? It must be HARD and they’re doing a GREAT job blah blah bla…” The JOK Lovers that I’d like to put into Gosselin-addiction rehab though, are the ones who say things like, “They NEED all the freebies…they NEED EVERYTHING that’s GIVEN to them (begged for), and they DESERVE IT because otherwise they couldn’t RAISE EIGHT kids.” Oh my God in heaven help them all. All three of them! Poor fans/fools. Moon – I LOVE how you invented “fools” for fans! That’s SO great- tee hee!.
Last but not least , in my book…dear Jonny-Boy, complete DORK that he is: He’s sitting, sprawled in the carriage like Lady Godiva, with that smug look on his face, his mouth in that twisted grimace thing he does, like he’s trying not to burst out laughing for some STUPID un-reason, and he raises his hand to some invisible fans/fools because no one’s paying attention, and HE WAVES just like a f_____g PROM QUEEN in the back of a Cadillac on the football field during HOMECOMING!!! I swear to God, I almost died laughing; if you didn’t catch it, you have to see it to believe it – he’s got the wrist action down perfect, and he’s smi-i-i-i-i-i-i-ling!! It’s a lovely daaaaay… Jonny-Boy’s on this no-work-for-him lifestyle like a bum on a balogna sandwich. What a guy!
I don’t know, I just have a hard time believing that a non-commercial author would/could write this book. If you think about the amount of time it takes to produce an edited, copy-edited, polished book for wide-wide-wide release (this will probably easily sell more than 500,000 copies, which in terms of books is probably in the top 1% of sales) it just doesn’t seem like they’d leave it up to someone who isn’t a professional ghostwriter. There are literally hundreds and thousands of them out there who do everything from writing / editing TV scripts, movie script re-writes, commercial books for people like Jon & Kate who probably don’t read as much as a copy of Highlights Magazine every 6 months, etc…. Anytime you see a book come out by someone like Paris Hilton or a 10-year-old child Actor (cognitively, probably about the same thing) these people are always behind it, getting paid about 0.00001% of the total revenue for the book (sounds about right for Kate, doesn’t it?) and coming up with 99% of the ideas / content for the book with someone like Beth sitting down with them for a few days to generate ideas. I’m guessing this was probably more the case — Kate said she wouldn’t take 2 or 3 days out of her “job” doing speaking engagements or filming to give the ghostwriter material to work with, so she just had someone relatively close to the family sit down with the writer to take notes on the family.
I would bet everything I own on Jon and/or Kate not having written a single syllable that ended up within the dozens of pages of this book. And again, like I said, I just don’t see a non-author writing an entire book (it’s what, 186 pages?) — there was probably a very large advance for this book (I’d guess close to $1M) and a lot of money invested in its success, I just don’t see the people who want to make their 7 figure investment back allowing someone like Beth to write it. Who knows, though. The bottom line is that once the investors get paid back with the profit they expected, J&K will take the lions share of profit after that, and people like Beth and the Ghostwriter will probably get in the low five-figure area for their part while everyone else walks away with millions or hundreds of thousands. No surprise.
^^EDIT: Sorry, Kate didn’t say she wouldn’t sit down with an author for 2 or 3 days, I meant to write “Kate almost certainly wouldn’t”
BM,
I don’t really have any concrete ideas on why Jon’s name was added later on. Branding/ownership, maybe? It’s also possible that he was added right around the time that the falling out with Beth occurred because they (J/K) realized that when it came time to publicize the book, it would look super awkward if Kate was always there alone rather than with Beth and that questions would arise about Beth’s absence more readily. (Would be the only example I can think of where J/K thought ahead.)
On the dedication being to Jon despite his being one of the authors, I think that was just sloppy editing. The editor should have caught that and corrected it before it published, unless the change was made very late in the game and it was too expensive to fix.
I have just recently started watching the show and am trying to figure these people out. I think at first I actually liked Jon and Kate (please don’t hurt me
but as I watched more and more I saw in Kate what I don’t like in myself (I am the mother of 4). The nagging, the putting people in their place (as if that is her right), and just the negativity of it all. I have started to now take a deeper look at myself and try to be a better mom and wife (so I guess thanks for the KON) but I am just so saddened by the faces of the kiddos sometimes and the fact that anyone who has mattered to these kids somehow is pushed out of the family due to a “slight”. The whole thing just makes me think a lot about trying to be a better person
Thanks for letting me rambe
Emily
Since the disappearance of Beth and Aunt Jodi seemed to coincide, I wonder if Beth was as upset as the rest of the Aunt Jodi fans with the way Jodi and Kevin were treated – and perhaps spoke up to Kate?? Maybe Beth watched as Jodi’s brave sister Julie informed the world of where Jodi went (Thank’s Julie! I’m forever grateful!). Maybe the exact same thing happened to Beth? (Being offered show royalties, a contract, Kate having a high holy fit about it) The sheeple refused to accept the truth then – they won’t accept anything Beth SAYS now. So, her SILENCE speaks volumes righ now.
Actually (and I wish now I had kept a screenshot of it) when the book was first announced on the publisher’s website – it only showed Kate and Beth Carson as the writers.
My take is that when the PR firm stepped in (close to this time) that they insisted on adding Jon’s name – so it stays as the “Brand name”. I admit to actually reading the book, while waiting for a medication to be filled at Wal-Mart. It is written as poorly as one could expect. Never are there any quotes or comments from Jon.
My presumption as a lifelong reader is that Kate started the book with Beth, the contract was signed and then Beth pushed out by the publisher/PR firm. The book itself needs major editing. And no where do I see “we wrote this so they would know they were wanted”.
In fact, in more than a few places, it quotes her saying that “If the cameras got to be too much they would quit”. As always, hypocrites to the end.
I may consider looking for a copy at the library since I would love to show the juxtaposition of their comments all over the place between what they say about the show, etc.
Also, may I comment on Beth and Bob: my impression is that Katie Irene got to know her when the kiddoes came along, and Beth and Bob are “real money” – whether they inherited or earned it. Katie Irene is one of those new money snobs and I’m certain something strained the relationship.
#36 Libby,
I think Beth’s children are the wildcards in keeping all this hush-hush. The older ones either know or have a pretty good clue why Beth and Kate no longer associate and I suspect one of them will spill the beans. Thalia who is supposedly the twins “best friend” and quite a bit older ws probably told that it’s more appropriate to play with kids more herown age. If I remember more or less correctly, Thalia is now 12-13 and with the twins barely 8, that’s a universe of difference.

I agree and it is evident. In the yard sale episode “whomever” did not care enough abuot it to truly organize and advertise the thing. When she called the radio station Kate was pretty demanding, IMO and said (paraphrase) “This is Kate!” (like is she on a first name basis with the radio station?) “When people come, I will know that you have done your job” (or something to that effect). But that behaviour is nothing new. For over a year supporters questioned how she treated the remodel show and churchch after the remodel reveal, only to find out it ws true via the book…so her sense of entitlement has always been there. Add that with new money, and watch out!
Horrifically, horrific.

I did read many rumors regarding Beth’s dissapearance and it was along the lines that if Figure 8 was going to continue filming at their home and Beth was going to continue being filmed they/she was going to get paid for her time.
Then Jodi disappeared, Beth disaapeared and Jon was no longer working for Bob (if he ever really was).
I can’t wait for the tell all books:)

Thanks for taking the time to this weigh in, and welcome to Musings.
I have heard your sentiment quite often, actually, and you can only be applauded for using Kon as a catalyst for self awareness/change.
It is a good thing
What does PR stand for again???
Yeah, I can’t wait for an employee of Figure 8 or someone connected to the show to get pushed to the edge with Kate and go to the media or write a book. It will be great and we’ll finally see J&K get publicly criticized — not just on blogs — as they deserve for their behavior and exploitation of their children. I love how every week it seems like there are more and more anti-J&K themes in the media and less and less positive-J&K themes. It seems like the only good write ups they get anymore are if it’s corporately sponsored (surprise surprise) and indirectly a plug for something like the Microsoft pay off to Kon for his “Budgeting Tips” for those without a budget.
Kate was here in NYC yesterday (the 3rd of Dec.) again. She was at the P&G store. Here she is on MyFox NY, sharing her money-saving tips!

Alana #38—I loved the comment. That is so funny. I had to read that one twice.
Dear Moon,
About the disappearance of Beth:
I’ve always thought that Beth was exiled because she’d finally had enough of the way Kate treats the children, possily offered a better way to mother, and Kate told her to “F__K OFF”, as only Kate can do.
The last time we saw Beth was the Utah trip. Something REALLY strange happened between Mady and Beth that no one has offered an explanation for or confirmed for me that they saw it, too. Here’s what happened:
JOK was out to dinner at a swanky restaurant feeding their faces as usual and Beth was caring for the children. Mady was jockying for attention as Beth presided over the last of the “babies’” meals. Mady looked up at Beth with this disingenuous look on her face and said “I don’t know what she said because they edited it out”, but her mouth was moving.
Beth, who had been leaning over the table attending to a ‘tup, stood straight up, her eyes wide open and said to Mady, “Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND?” Mady, appearing to know she’d just blown it by whatever she’d said, starts to back away from the table as Beth says, in her most non-Beth voice, “To bed! You get in bed RIGHT NOW! I MEAN IT! I’ll be up to say good-night.” And Mady takes off running through the house, to the stairs, looking over her shoulder as she runs, like she thinks Beth might be running after her; the camera person films the entire run, as Mady makes a bee-line for her bedroom up the stairs, lickity split!
That was it. Bye bye, Beth. All gone Beth after that scene. We never saw her again. Whatever Mady said, Beth’s reaction was so strong I’m sure she had a pow-wow with JOK about it when they came home. I concluded that whatever was said really pissed JOK off and it ripped the friendship forever. DOES ANYONE ELSE REMEMBER THIS?
#53 Alana~
I do not remember this particular scene, but will look for it. Perhaps other Musing bloggers do?
Anyone?
Interesting observation to be sure!
Alana-
I do remember that episode. When Beth is trying to get dinner for the kids, Mady is being mean to one of the tups. When Beth calls Mady on it, Mady says something to the effect that she (Mady) doesn’t have to be nice to the tups anymore because they aren’t babies. That is when Beth says, “are you for real?” She orders Mady up to bed, chases after her and says “do not pass go.” Then Kate and Jon are on the couch, talking about how Beth and Mady have this love/hate relationship. I couldn’t tell you when Beth disappears but if it is after this….coincidental…..hmmmm.
Alana–
On the loveseatafter they were home–Kate answers some ? with-”Mady & Beth have a love hate relationship–
Maybe, Beth was as offended as the statement was/is offensive–Between an adult & a child–
I never thought about this before–
