I am Somebody Now! (Yeah, a Jackass) WITH EDIT TAKE 2
Jan 13th, 2009 by BohemianMoon

EDITED TO ADD: The TOTAL video of this interview is now up on the right hand side of the article page (trust me, it doesn’t make him look any more intelligent) Jon also stated he is there for R & D (research and development I am assuming), and not R & R as the transcriber scribed. The total video reveals some, shall I say interesting claims Jon is making. Particularly in reference to how Kate’s parents have never been involved in not only Jon and Kate’s children’s lives, but NONE of their grandchildren’s lives, ever.
I am going to preface this by stating that the following is an oral interview, face to face, apparently. I am a little confused and surprised by the editing of the piece in terms of capitalization, etc. It almost reads like questions were submitted in writing and Jon submitted his answers the same way. I am amused, however, at that thought. I am even more amused at the thought that the interviewer told the person transcribing to transcribe the way he talks, which clearly emphasizes not only what a royal jackass he came across as, but his obvious lack of education.
Not to mention his interview skills. Or, should I say, lack thereof.
Jon Gosselin (minus Kate & Eight) on Parenting
Last Update: 3:57 pm
Jon Gosselin visits Utah, talks to 2News (Discovery Channel) For reality stars Kate and Jon Gosselin, their lives were turned upside down when they learned they were expecting sextuplets …. after recently having twins.
Jon was recently here in Utah, and Shauna Lake sat down with him to talk about family, parenting, and their reality show “Jon and Kate plus eight”. Here is part of their interview.
Shauna:did you ever picture your life like this?
Jon Gosselin: No way. i mean, i would rather have my life like this then the down side of it all, our kids get to travel and we get to travel and we get to meet awesome people. that’s why i do it, it’s great.
Shauna: You could very easily be in the same situation, but with no tv show and all and not all the perks.
Jon: I could be nothing. I mean when the babies were born that’s how it was. I lost my job, kate had no job because she was pregnant and we lived off of nothing.
Shauna: So what do you say to people who criticized the show and you guys because you are exploiting your kids a little bit and using that for monetary gain and it was interesting at first when they were all babies and maybe now it isn’t, or..
Jon: it’s not exploiting because they aren’t working. like we go to the park, well we go to the park anyway. you know. so if they are going to film it, why not. and all the money just goes to them anyway. Everything is for our kids, and it always has been, i don’t care what people say.
Shauna: Do you feel protective of kate. it seems people are more critical of her and her personality and then you come out always looking like chill, mellow and laid back..
Jon: well i’m not always chilled because like when you have 8 kids and they are all talking at once, especially 5 girls it’s kind of like be quiet. But editing has a lot to play with that you know.
Shauna: So she really not as high strung as they make her seem?
Jon: No she is really laid back, I mean i’m here for three more days. So she has gotten way better. And she handled the brunt of a lot stuff, because i was working all the time and now that load has been pushed onto me so she has been more relaxed
Shauna: And some day the show will come to an end. I mean it just seems like that would be the normal the course. So what would be your plans at that point, are you being sort of business wise and saving for college?
Jon: oh yeah I have, we have a corporation and other stuff. So i have some good plans and some r-and-r that i’m doing up here and some secrets that i’m not going to tell people, but yeah, you will see me around, definitely.
(THANKS Tanya!)

OMG TANYA THANK YOU!!!! That was hysterical! What the sam hell do Jon and Kate need a corporation for? Why the hell do we care to see him for a while after the show is gone, when its gone FUCK OFF BUDDY! What a dolt! LMAO Moon and Tanya, I got zero sleep last night as my baby has a terrible cold and cant breath well at night, thank you so much for making me laugh
Kristie~
I remember those long nights full of worry when my baby was ill. Sending get well vibes quick as a bunny to your babe, and “don’t worry, you will get some sleep when the baby goes to university and is out of the house for the first time” vibes to mom!
Is she breathing better?
Kristie~
And isn’t it funny that Kate’s recent talk was void of Jon because he was taking a little R&R in Utah? I wonder what the excuse was to the venue on why they couldn’t appear together.
OMG, that is so funny!
Anyone picturing Jeff Spicoli’s interview after winning the surfing championship?
Ummm Jon…..you did not LOSE your job.
You LEFT your job.
Big difference.
Jeeze Louise….what a jerk.
Shauna: “You could very well be in the same situation but with no t.v. show and all and not all the perks.”
Jon: “I could be nothing. I mean…”
Jooooooooonnnnnnnn? YOU ARE STILL NOTHING!!!!!!!
Thanx for the ROARING laughs, Moon!
This just reminds me of something my father used to quote…
I think it’s Abe Lincoln..but it’s been attributed to a few people.
“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt ”
*chuckles*
IMHO…
Jon really needs to stop talking !!
A village has lost their idjit…HELLLOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
“I could be nothing” – HE IS NOTHING!!!
The g’s are probably trading off baby sitting while the other
is on the road. Expect if they make $25 – 35.000 each weekend
its worthwhile. Keep up the good work!!!
P.S. Watched a basketball game instead of the show last nite -
did I miss anything IMPORTANT????
Kristie,
Your welcome. I read the interview last night and couldn’t believe it. What can I say.
I hope your baby feels better. I remember the days of no sleep and that doesn’t change until they go to college or move out. Moon is absolutely correct on that.
Moon,
No problem. You ROCK!!!!!!Can you believe that interview? I just had to share that with you. They are a PR nightmare
Moon,
Shame on you
I found an article dated back in Oct. Kate admits to having food catered on days that they film the show. Oh by the way you are wrong she does want to preserve the kids childhood.
Here’s the link : entainment.howstuffworks.com/jon-andkate-plus-8.htm
ENJOY!!
OMG that is laughable. A corporation? Secret plans? Wow I guess Jon must be high up on the covert stuff now huh (sorry “Secret Agent Jon” was playing in my head) I tried not to watch last night and made sure that the kiddos were tucked away before I did but
I turned it off (after turning it on half way over) when K whined about Mady’s teeth being “AWFUL YUCKY” or some such nonsense. I don’t understand why anyone can watch these two and not see what they are doing to these wonderful little people ??
P.S. was that Hannie who got to sit with mom and dad all by herself?? yuck
Does he have any self esteem? I wanted to say, we all know you stopped showing up to work so stop acting like a victim. Pretty sad that his life is defined by the show. Glad to see you are taking R & R while your children are working for you.
Sorry this one was spell checked! Some how I submitted before I was ready!
Moon,
*entertainment
It’s nice to see J&K going to the spa, golfing, utah for R&R, etc..off of people’s donations isn’t it?? If people can’t see through these two people now, they are not only blind, they are stupid! What kind of corporation could these two bums possibly have? The only future plans they could possibly have would be another scam. I hate to tell him, but he is still a nobody…. only now he is known as a low budget, greedy, child exploitator. J&K are such frauds!
“Jon: it’s not exploiting because they aren’t working. like we go to the park, well we go to the park anyway. you know. so if they are going to film it, why not. AND ALL THE MONEY JUST GOES TO THEM ANYWAY. ”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA — if that’s the case, let’s see your tax return, Kon. What a massive tool and complete farce of a human being.
“Jon: oh yeah I have, we have a corporation and other stuff.”
Yes, your attorneys and accountants set up an LLC in your name so that you can get a tax break and funnel all of your and your kids’ money into under the defense that “It’s not going to us! It goes to the kids!” all the while you write off the few things you have to pay for in life as “business expenses.” You did this so that once your kids sue you for the money that you can hide behind the LLC and not lose your house and personal property when the day of reckoning comes and the sextuplets turn 18 and lawyer up. Sad, sad, sad.
Yeah, Katie Irene is laid back, Jon, AT THE SPA! She is as tightly wound as anyone I’ve ever met. Jon, you are a slacker, you’ve always been a slacker and you must be kidding if you think we believe all the “money is for the kids”. He IS a dolt. I would not watch this show for anything. Kate is a bully and if she let God determine her life and how she leads it, according to her comments she was not able to conceive on her own. Well, KI, maybe that was God’s plan for you. Oh…well….yeah… I really have begun to hate both of these parents. Get off TV and let your kids live their lives.
Ooooo! Look out people of Utah!! Jon’s got a secret and you might be seeing more of him? We all remember how Kate practically got all creamy crotched over that house they stayed in on the ski trip.
And as we all know, any 4 and 1/2 year old NEEDS a vacation home!
Do Jon and Kate live in the same house? He says she is really laid back while she just got done telling the Christian interviewer that she is Type-A and controlling. Would that be laid back while on meds? Shouldn’t these two talk to each other once in awhile so they can at least get their stories straight?
I love the way he skirted the issue of being protective of Kate!! How does the mouse guard the Rottweiller?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shauna: You could very easily be in the same situation, but with no tv show and all and not all the perks.
Jon: I could be nothing. I mean when the babies were born that’s how it was. I lost my job, kate had no job because she was pregnant and we lived off of nothing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, how is that that you can live off nothing? What you meant to say was you lived off nothing that you had in the bank because you were getting donations from an unsuspecting public. And continue to hold yourselves out there as somewhat needy. Oh, and JON? Who is actually lying here? Your boss, who says you quit coming into work or yourself, who continues to claim you lost your job? Because if you truly lost your job and it was over insurance issues as you have stated in previous interviews, I would say you have an actionable offense against that employer.
Jon, you poor miserable sap. You don’t even know how bad you have it buddy. I say, the two adults in that house best quite yakking because everytime you two open your mouths, more unsubstantiated bull poopie comes out.
Jackass? There has to be something BEYOND jackass to compare this moron to…………….
Lisa~
Jackass? There has to be something BEYOND jackass to compare this moron to…………….
I was trying to be more thoughtful to those that are offended by curse words and questionable slang, but I have a few alternative terms, that is for sure!
Emily~
Yes it was Hannah, and I believe that that was designed to cause controversy.
They don’t give one iota about those kids. Doctor visits should be private, full stop. How they freely highlighted Mady’s dental issues was criminal. Or it SHOULD be.
That poor child is raked over the coals much too often, and it revolts me.
louise~
Recap is about to be published!
Lynner~
Great quote and apropos.
They both need to stop talking. Their lack of intelligence, reasoning skills and basic common sense is glaring. They can never keep their stories straight and are always outright lying.
How people can support them is beyond me.
The video at the bottom of that website, has Shauna talking about the ’surprise’ has something to do with the olympics. I can’t imagine what hair brained scheme he has planned for the olympics. What a dork!
**especially 5 girls**
Good to know mommy isn’t the only one who
has a gender bias.
Their days are numbered. The fat lady is starting
to warm up her voice.
So, Jon says that he has”some secrets.” Could it be that he plans on leaving Kate? Then he says “you will see ME around.” Not Kate and I, but ME. I think that Jon dreams about life without Kate. Maybe he realizes that he needs to find his balls, and get on with a happy life.
Say it so Mo a video !!LOL
That last line — Jon said R & D, not R & R. R&D means Research & Development. I assume for that Corporation he mentioned in the video. Wonder what it is?
#5 – Syl —-
Jon was referring to the job he had when the tups were born. He lost that job because his employer did not want to cover health insurance for his family, and I can’t say I blame the employer. Insurance for a family of 10 is expensive. The job he left so he could stay home was more recent.
Joyce~
This is not true. That would be illegal.
Jon got canned from his job while Kate was pregnant with the tups for not showing up. He also lost the job that the Governor of Pennsylvania created for him post sextuplet birth.
Jon doesn’t like to work. He does like to ski, though.
Joyce~
Yes, I edited my entry to reflect the transcriber’s error.
Hello,
First time poster but I must say that I have MAJORLY, MAJORLY enjoyed the countless hours I’ve spent over the last month or so both here & GWOP. Thanks to all for the belly laughs at the expense of those horrendously horrendous excuses for parents.
Had a crazy thought…what if those righteous Christians Kate (too bad her name doesn’t start with a capital ‘C’…) & Jon’s, ahem, ‘corporation’ is their very own ‘church’ like the Duggars? Maybe their ‘personal Jesus’ has told them that’s their new calling…? A little more makeup and donated plastic surgery and Kate could be the new Tammy Faye Bakker.
Looking forward to many more hours of entertainment here! Thanks to all for the great reading!!
Tam~
Oh good LORD, the Church of Kon and Take! Can you imagine?
Thanks for coming out of the shadows and offering your comments! They are appreciated
Why do people think Jon lost his job because of Kate’s pregnancy? This would be a major lawsuit, IF IT WAS TRUE, but Jon lost his job on his own and it had nothing to do with the pregnancy.
ATTENTION EVERYONE!!!!
Part 2 and 3 of the interview is online. Please watch but let’s just say Jon explains all the unanswered questions about his Mom, Kate’s parents and of course BETH and Bob. I’m sure he had to sit in time out for this one.
R&D.
The Olympics?
Could he be he is working with a snow board manufacturer?
Creating a board with 8 Little Faces?
Or some equally disgusting tie in.
I am underwhelmed by the gall.
Tanya~
Well, he states that he and Bob and Beth text all of the time, right after he stated that Kate’s parents are not involved in ANY of their children or grandchildren’s lives, and never have been and that is not true. That was a flat out LIE. Any stroll on Google and through the archives of the newspaper articles will tell you that.
He is a liar.
He is a looser.
Moon,
I know. Why do they continue to lie? I dont believe for one minute he talks to Beth and Bob. As far as Kate’s parents, they probably dont want their grandkids on TV. My question now is why is he answering questions about her parents and his mom? I believe that the members of their family don’t approve of what their doing and may be voicing their opinions. That’s why he is throwing them under the bus. MORE DAMAGE CONTROL BUT ITS TOO LATE.
Tanya~
Kate’s parents were definitely involved and the whole falling out started with Kate’s greed regarding the donations from the church and her major lack of gratitude regarding the home remodel wherein the church members donated their blood and sweat. This was the church in which Kate’s father was a minister. Not on their archives when the thanks to the church disappear.
It is horrific for him to state that Kate’s parents have never been involved in those children’s lives and aren’t involved in ANY of the grandkid’s lives.
I think Jon thinks that they are set for life and whatever he has cooking is going to pan out.
I think that he is going to fall, and fall hard.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Moon! Ok, like, I just went to um, like kutv.com to watch like, Jon’s um, interview, like, and I’m um, only like 1:32 into like part 1 and um, like, it looks like Jon’s had something done (more free plastic surgery?) to like his face or something, doesn’t it? Perhaps I’m SO like exhausted from like catching up on all the juicy KON posts o’ the day, but, um, it looks like Jon has pulled like his eyelashes out too, doesn’t it? (Isn’t there like some medical disorder/nervous condition that causes people to like pull out their eyelashes?) . Oh well, like back to the interview.
‘Gimme a bucket!’
What I found amusing was Jon’s statement that 19 million people watch the show. Sorry, the top cable program last week only had 5.4 million viewers. Jon and Kate + 8 has never cracked the top 20. The show may be number 1 on TLC, but TLC isn’t a very popular cable channel.
Jon looks like he has had some Botox injections. Maybe he is in Utah looking for a new babe.
I don’t for one minute believe that Beth and Bob are still friends with Jon and Kate. Nor, do I believe that Kate’s parents don’t have anything, to do with any of their children or grandchildren.
Jon is such a big liar. Kate has taught Jon, how to be a big liar, just like her. Jon and Kate are two peas in a pod.
Patty Ann~
It amazes me that he has no qualms about blatantly lying in this interview. But then again, he has no qualms about pimping his kids, so on second thought, I am not so amazed after all.
Karen M~
Exactly. That interview was so full of crap and lies.
If he truly does talk with his mother and they have a relationship, I would be asking myself daily if I were she, where the hell did I go wrong in my parenting.
I forgot to mention, Jon says that Kate is working on her third book. I wonder what the name of it will be.
Patty Ann~
It is a cookbook.
(Bwahhaaahaa!)
“Kate Goes Green with Recycled Recipes from 1970 to the Present”
The video interview is considerably more detailed than the print article. Good grief, Jon makes Jeff Spicoli sound articulate! There was someone off camera prompting him in the part where he talks about Kate’s parents not being in their lives. Jon looks over at whoever it is telling him that he’s learned other people don’t have the grandparents involved with their kids, and then Jon picks up on that and repeats it. Who’s the mystery person? Their PR/agent? Also, haven’t they said in the past that Kate’s parents helped with the twins when Kate was hospitalized for the tups, as well as after the tups were born? Or was that info from Julie? Anyway, his whole “I dunno” attitude to explain why Kate’s parents aren’t in their lives was just unbelievable. Plus, he admits he’s now a stay at home dad, so sheeple can put to rest any arguments about the status of his employment. Lots and lots of spin going on in that interview. I liked the interviewers questions, not the usual softball/fluff, she had obviously done some research.
Gator~
No, the grandparents definitely watched the twins and were in their lives up until the donation fiasco at the church and the remodel. I think that is when the skids started.
It is in the book that the grandparents watched the twins. Kate’s mom is quoted in a few newspaper articles when the tups were born as well.
Jon says he is 30, but he acts 12! The way he answered those questions was so juvenile. I bet Kate had a heart attack when she saw it. Oh, and the story about the parents was laughable. I noticed Jon looking at someone to. You could tell someone had discussed the issue with him before the question was asked, and he was trying to keep the lie straight and couldn’t.
lisak~
I agree. He out and out lied.
#47 Gator-
Jon makes Jeff Spicoli sound articulate!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m like, waiting the whole, like interview, for Jon to like. pull out a doob, and like light it up, like ya know? Awesome.
What. A. Tool!
Many things caused my BS detector to start pinging but I will cut you all some slack and only mention three:
1. Tool Boy states he doesn’t see more of his family in Hawaii because they can’t afford to come to the states.
Jon? Like ya know, Hawaii is like, a state!! You jackass. It’s too late, like to tell Kate to keep her legs , like closed but you Tool Boy, ought to learn to, like keep your mouth shut.
2. At one point he says “I wouldn’t lie to people, normally”.
Like, excuse me? If not normally then like what? Like occasionally? Like out of necessity, like, to cover you many other lies? Like mostly?
3. Tool Boy is discussing what they employ the 4-6 hour a day helper for. He mentions his TWO HOUR A DAY GYM WORK-OUT.
Goodness gracious! We have like reached celebrity status like, haven’t we? I thought movie stars and like, famous people spent inordinant amounts of time at the gym, because, like, normal people can’t usually afford to like, take that much time away from like, family and work. But like, your family is your work, but like the family doesn’t work.
Like. Much.
That hat? What’s up with it? Hiding new plugs??
Again with “my kids have never eaten fast food”. Umm in the Utah episode, Jon is clearly shown walking with 6 Happy Meals to bring to the kids. What were those all for him?
I guess he doesn’t lie … normally. I mean at all.
Patty Ann~
It is a cookbook.
(Bwahhaaahaa!)
I just laughed SO hard at that. I watched the Twilight Zone the other night, and it was the “To Serve Man” episode. Unfortunately, we can’t ship Kate and her “cookbook” off to another planet. I’m sure they need help in learning how to make a PB and banana sandwich …oh, and how to cut it diagonally…..seeing as Kate created that all by her little self.
Lee Lee~
Don’t forget to put the second slice of bread on top of the PB and banana sandwich BEFORE you cut it on the diagonal. You know, people missed that step ALL the time until culinary wizard Kate Gosselin set them straight!
A few more of my thoughts on Jon’s idiotic interview:
-Regarding his overinflated, exaggerated viewership numbers-how in the HELL could you be remotely proud of the fact that that many people have seen your children in sooooo many embarrassing & compromising situations? I would be terrified and mortified. In fact, several year ago I used to run a ‘fan group’ for a band & I had pictures of myself (& and majorly narcissistic ex-friends) posted. While at a show for said band, a complete and total stranger came up to me and knew who I was from seeing my photos on the internet. I couldn’t get home fast enough to remove any and all pictures of myself off the site. That truly scared the crap out of me. And, hell, I’m a ‘nobody’!
-Do you think when Jon was walking down the streets of Utah handing out his family pictures he was charging $20 a pop?
-Do you think that they know their show is nearing its end? Notice Jon’s demeanor ie. EYEROLL when he says the show will be over ’soon’?
-Has anyone called the Humane Society yet to check on the 2 newly acquired dogs? Can’t imagine they’re being properly cared for…but then again, maybe the dogs have their own ‘people’ to handle them…
I cannot believe that there is absolutely no one in their ‘Kon camp’ with 1 ounce of intelligence and /or common sense to put the kibosh on any and all future interviews-especially face-to-face videotaped interviews, public appearances, etc. of these 2 fools. Maybe, secretly they, too wish to see them fall from their white resin thrones?
All for know, don’t wish to wear out my ‘welcome’… : – )
The g’s will need to publicize when and where the corporation’s quarterly or semiannually meetings are.
Also need to refer to Elvis re the PB & banana sandwich which was is favorite and he’s been gone for thirty years.
RE the lying – if jon says its true, it must be true!!!
Happy Days are coming!!!
Heads up! Another interview from Jon in Utah:
WOW!!
A quick search of The Canyons Condo in Park City, Utah…
Can only imagine how much they bought their ‘vacation’ condo for…
Love the 1st comment about lack of tip Jon left on Main Street in newest interview/article. Must not have sold many pictures that day, huh Pimp Daddy?
Moon,
I have watched the recent videos and read the article. I must admit, it is all interesting. Regarding your comment above about Kate’s parents, where is the information regarding the church donations? Alot of what I have read regarding this was on GWOP and I couldn’t seem to find where the discussion began. Any help on this one? Thank you.
Jon says he couldn’t snowboard even with a helmet and goggles without people recognizing him. Hey Jon, maybe it was the camera crew following you around that tipped them off! What a moron.
trina~
There are links for you to follow in each of the following Musings entries. They will take you to other articles. It is a lot to wade through, but the information is there.
Oh boy, there is alot there. Thank you. I’ll be back when I’m finished!
Even teenage girls don’t say “like” that often, do they? And the Utah Olympics were back in 2004, so what would be going on there now? I’m DYING to know about the dogs – anyone have any info?
amyf~
No info, only that Jon stated that they have two. I do hope that these animals are being well taken care of. And I do hope that they are indoor/outdoor dogs, but something tells me that they are not a part of the every day mix inside. They could be, of course and I hope that they are.
Two dogs are a lot to add to that mix, no matter what their size. I do believe that I recall Jon stating that he wanted larger dogs – a standard poodle, I think. We have two large dogs here, a Labradoodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog. The Bernese is still a “puppy” – just 5 months- but is just about 60 pounds. They are indoor/outdoor dogs and I know a lot of people keep their dogs outside and provide a kennel outside………..I don’t know, I could never do that.
I am rambling now, lol…………..I just think two dogs were a lot to add to that mix. I wonder if their 4-6 hour a day help is the designated caretaker of those animals as well.
And Good LORD, lets hope that those animals are being trained, or if they got the dogs as adults, have been well trained.
I don’t know……..the whole thing doesn’t sit well with me. I would have waited until the little children were the twins age before adding animals, particularly two dogs.
Moon, I believe Jon did say he wanted a larger dog – “a herding dog” was what I think he said with a stoopid grin. Kate argued, saying she wanted a little dog. Probably meaning a “lap dog”, but we all know that Hannie wouldn’t allow Mommy’s lap to be shared by any dog…….
Kate commented that the two pretty cats she and Jon had “went away” after the twins were born. I wonder how long it will take before these dogs “go away”.
dotsicle~
Hey there~! Long time no “see”
I could be wrong but I thought they had talked about a large dog – standard poodle- on the couch as standard poodles are very light shedders and “hypoallergenic” for those that are allergic. No dog is totally hypoallergenic, but poodles are a good choice, as are labradoodles (cross between standard poodle and lab). I remember thinking that any dog (let alone two) at this point in time with that many small children was not the best choice – both for the children and the animal. I specifically thought that a standard poodle was not the best choice for a household with young children.
Regardless, I do hope that if they got adult dogs that they got a dog from a shelter or a rescue, but if they were looking for pure bred dogs, pure from a shelter or rescue may come with issues that even the shelter or the rescue organization are not aware of. I do hope that the dogs are trained, or if pure bred puppies, came from a reputable breeder and are being trained well. I would hate anything to happen to either the children or the animal.
Dogs are a huge responsibility. They are family members and take a lot of effort, IMO. As I stated, we have two large dogs, a Labradoodle and a Bernese Mountain dog who are indoor/outdoor dogs. We have acreage here and we installed electric fencing on a good 3.5 or it so the dogs can run free down to the pond, etc. It is a fantastic system and very popular with dog owners here in rural America. Our dogs love it and it was very, very easy to train them to it. We also spend a great deal of time with them, and have trained both ourselves (the Bernese, at 5 months, is still a work in progress, lol).
Oh, and lets not even start to talk about the cost of large breeds! Food bills, vet bills, toys………………..
I do hope that the dogs will be well taken care of, loved and long members of this family.
I seriously doubt that anyone in that house has the intelligence or patience to train a dog. Do you really think they’d be better at teaching a dog than they are at teaching their kids? Let’s hope they at least hired someone to do it for them. Do you suppose Kate took pictures of the dog’s first poops?
Moon,
How old is your labradoodle? We were looking into getting one. Is yours a first generation? (one parent full lab, one parent full poodle)? I know in Europe they are actually making them a standard breed (maybe UKC?) and now breed labradoodles with labradoodles. I know this isn’t the place for it, but I’d love to hear how yours is working out. Thanks!
PS. Bernese are cool too. I don’t want to leave out your other baby! There is an internet test out there which asks you questions about your personality and then tells you what kind of dog you are. I think I was a BMD!
Chrissy~
LOL on the dog poop picture thing!
I do not feel that anyone would have the patience either, that is why I do hope that they hired someone to help. But, the fact remains that the family would have to be a part of the entire training process, or what would be the point? The dogs will not know who is the alpha dog of the pack unless that person/s were a strong participant in the training process.
That is one of the parts that bothers me about bringing animals into a household with that many small children. Dogs vie for the alpha position in any pack, whether that dog is male of female. Sometimes they are aggressive when they are trying to reach the top. Of course the level of aggressiveness can be dependent on the breed, but most all dogs try to get “higher”, as it were in the pack and they will consider the children part of the pack. That is one of the reasons that canine experts suggest that children be at least 9 before a family gets a dog. The child or children of the family are of the mental cognition to be able to understand canine pack mentality and how vital the training process of said canine/s is.
Kyla will be three in late summer. She is a F2 (second generation) apricot that was bred for her hypoallergenic level (fantastic) and temperament . Yes, in Australia they started to breed labs and poodles to produce a hypoallergenic dog that could also be a trained as a guide dog. They are the best of the both worlds of Labs and Poodles. They are goofy, happy, highly intelligent, loyal, playful, easily trained and make really great watch dogs as well. Kyla is a doodle dog that likes the water (not all of them do I have heard) and swims a great deal, weather permitting. She likes to fetch and hunt on her own. I know, I know, but we live in a rural area and on land. She is very good at it, actually, and will spend a great deal of time sitting perfectly still if she has her eye on a bird, just biding her time until the bird forgets about her and then she goes in. We do not promote this behavior in her, but we also can’t watch her 24/7 in that way. She is also doing what comes natural to her.
I do know that hunters like to hunt with Doodles and they are becoming a popular hunting dog. They have a soft mouth and therefore are able to carry back birds/fowl without puncturing the prey.
Even though they don’t shed, their fur really needs to be kept up with as it can mat easily. They are large dogs as well as big food dogs in terms of being food motivated to a point, and because they are so damn cute, lol, giving too many treats can be an issue and they can gain weight easily (hear that hubs?…….Again!)
The “little” (ha!) Bernese is a handful, but that is because she is a super large puppy, and even though she looks like a full grown large dog, she is only 5 months. She too is highly intelligent, but BMD are worker dogs and NEED a heck of a lot more interaction than does the Doodle. This spring we will start to train Daisy to pull a small cart so she has a job to do. I am actually looking forward to it, as she can help in the garden!
And never worry about bringing up whatever it is you want to talk about here! It is all good
As a longtime member of a purebreed rescue, I hope the family knows what to do and does not see the dogs as disposable. Believe me, I have seen and heard every “stoopid” story imaginable. I could tell you stories that would make you angry and cry in pain and frustration.
Perhaps Jon is committed to caring for the dogs. One can only hope.
Moon,
Just watched the news, lots of talk about weather in the NE—Are ya’ll staying inside & hopefully warm? I cant even begin to think about that kind of cold–I’m cold here & it’s in the 50’s–It is supposed to go into the 30’s tonight–
Wanted you to know I’m thinking of ya’ll_-
Take Care
PS–And all the rest of you this cold cold night–
Ha! Minus 7 here in the Boston suburbs! (sometimes being housebound isn’t the worst thing in the world)
I’m so much more an animal person than a kid person (although I do think the Gs have to be the most photogenic family in the world), so I really am concerned for these dogs. I can’t imagine who got Kate to agree to two! Maybe Cara or Mady will be good with them, but I agree with people who say they hope there’s a trainer and/or additional caretaker involved. I’ve only ever had cats (I’d LOVE a dog, but I could never properly take care of one) and mine are my entire life. I just hope there’s someone around who will not only take care of these dogs’ physical needs but will also give them love and enough attention.
I agree!
We here on the moon are major animal people, though no farm animals yet, and I am not sure if we ever will, actually. However, in addition to two large dogs, we have 5 cats. No special type cats, just cats. I love them dearly, with all of my heart. Cats are so cool:)
How many do you have?
3 cats – Ben Nevis, Dundee (their 12th birthday is Saturday – I bought them a few shrimp!), and Barra, who’ll be 10 in February. Dundee (the love of my life) has major heart disease, but he’s been fine for 4-5 years with medication. I’ve lost cats before, but I can’t imagine living without any one of these. OK, tell me something cheerful! What are yours like? Email me if you feel like, so we don’t bore everyone else since we’re SO OT!
I’ll play the cats game.
I have three.
MET~
Well lemma hear about them! I wanna know!
amyf~
Awwwww they sound wonderful:) <3, <3, <3, hearts to them.
My cats are cool, 3 boys and two girls- all fixed as all of our animals are, or will be. Little Daisy dog is a little too young yet.
We have a calico girl medium hair named Belle we got from a farm here. I actually named her Adora Belle, but no one will let me call her that as it IS pretty cheesy! She is sweet, calm and has a squeaky purr which is endearing. She doesn’t like the outdoors too much, and it is rare for her to go out, though she likes watching it from the window sills.
Stripy Cat is a small tabby who came to us in an unusual way, I actually blogged about her somewhere on here. She is small and “scrappy”. She loves the outdoors and spends a great deal of time there. She is a good hunter and brings us “presents” quite often. She is the smallest of our cats and we actually call her “Little Kitty”, which she responds to more than Stripy.
Dali is a super large long haired black male that we also got from a farm. He has a bit of a “tude” in winter as he loves the outdoors and sometimes it is simply too cold to let him out, and he lets it be known that he is all none the happy about it. He is a good hunter as well.
Beezlebub, whom we call Bubber-boo, we got from a farm as well, actually the same farm in which we got Dali, but a year later. He too is a huge cat, grey stripped and medium hair. He is a cross between a dog and a cat, lol. He is best friends with Daisy dog and they run together on the land. If it is too cold they play together a lot inside and share a puppy bed.
Rastus is Bubber’s brother and is smaller than Bub, solid black with piercing gold eyes. He is very, very sweet and more of a lap cat than the other 4. He likes to go outside, but likes his creature comforts and a nice lap.
Getting pets from farms here is just about like getting them from a shelter. Most are the offspring of barn cats and most of whom would end up at a shelter at some point in time if people didn’t adopt them directly from the farm, as sad as it is. But adopting from a farm, I am just skipping a step and adding less stress to the animal as a whole, IMO.
And as for being OT, well if readers are not interested, that is fine. They know how to scroll
We have ten kids and waited until the oldest was almost 12 to get a dog. She was a rescued terrier mix puppy and has been great. We’ve done a lot of training and taught even the younger kids basic commands. I can’t see Kate doing half of what we’ve done with the kids and one dog. The cats were much easier. Leave the cat alone, stay out of the litter pan, and don’t squeeze the cat seemed to be about all we had to teach. Although ten kids and three cats poses a quandary for the cats. Which bed to sleep in tonight seems to puzzle them at times.
Welcome and congrats on your large brood (including the animals!). I an inferring from your handle that you have quintuplets, Yes? I would love to hear about them and the rest of the kids as well, and of course how you raise a large family.
As I have mentioned on my blog a number of times, I came from a relatively large family – 6 kids- and being raised in a Catholic family and going to a Catholic school, many, many of my friends came from large families, to upwards of 15 kids. It always amazes me when I hear the cry of “But they have 8, count them EIGHT, children” when growing up, large families were hardly an anomaly.
Congrats on the terrier! Those buggers are smart and have minds of their own, that is for sure. Hubs had a little Cairn Terrier. Something else that dog. And I my cats tell me that they can relate with yours. Even if they don’t have that many bed mate choices, they still have a hard time deciding where they are going to sleep as it gets too crowded with all with Hubs and I and the two dogs. Whomever gets there first is the winner!
Thanks, yes we have quints. They came after three singles who were pretty well planned. Oddly the quints were the pregnancy we had the most trouble conceiving. We laugh that we actually *tried* to get pregnant that time. Number 9 was a sort of NFP failure and number 10 was just a shock. Rather obviously from that we’re Catholic as well. Although I think I’m done with blessings my DH would likely be thrilled with one or two more.
Kate and her inability to deal with eight children bothers me. Why go to the trouble of infertility treatment if you only want to ignore or mistreat the result? Their lack of planning to provide for and support their children is shameful and appalling. My DH made sure we had enough money to support the children we brought into the world. He went back to school to get an advanced degree and promotion at work and finally he and his brother started their own business since they saw an opportunity to make a lot more working for themselves. We are blessed to have both of our families live in the area and to be in our lives. I can’t imagine the pregnancy with the quints without help or the first year of their lives without help. I was on modified bedrest practically from conception. I had morning sickness by five days after conception. I was in the doctor’s office within days after that and he was predicting triplets at that point and started the long list of activity restrictions. I admit it was uncomfortable, frustrating, and boring, but when I read the Gosselin book I wanted to scream. Kate made it sound like she’d undergone torture instead of a few weeks of necessary discomfort and restriction to have healthy babies. I bet she holds that over their heads the rest of their lives.
The terrier is smart and knows who to avoid and how. She also knows who is likely a soft touch to sneak treats.
Currently she usually sleeps with one of the two older kids. The cats are mostly alternating with the quints right now. I think because they have new fluffy comforters.
Kate should just admit all the help she has and be thankful for it rather than trying to pretend she’s doing what she obviously isn’t. We have had a live in housekeeper five or six days a week since early in the quint pregnancy. See, it’s easy to admit. I’m so thankful to DH though that he has gone to school and worked hard and we can afford to support our own kids and have the help. Our families are great, too, especially our parents. They make sure each child gets special time with both sets of grandparents and that we get some days for couple time.
Wow, great story and I do thank you for your point of view, it is very appreciated. It wows me that the the cry all over the internet, and from Kate and Jon themselves, but she has EIGHT kids, and six all the same age. It doesn’t help that Kate and Jon have tried to make it out like they have done all of this themselves when that is the farthest from the truth. One would EXPECT someone in their position and yours as well to have help, of course, so it is the call of “oh poor us, we have 8 children, try to walk in our shoes for a day” thing that aggravates so very many people. I so appreciate you sharing your story and how you have done it with so many blessings, who, by the way, sound as if you truly view and appreciate the beautiful blessings that they are. You have done it through hard work and love. Kudos!
As for your smart and sneaky little terrier, yep, they have that cuteness factor going for them and are intelligent enough to know how and when to use it to their advantage, particularly regarding treats
And of course fluffy new comforters are of a great appeal to those felines, but I am sure the chosen bed mate is an important factor too!
Thank you. I have some free time tonight for a change. We had a cousin of DH’s live with us the first year after the quints came home, too. She was out of high school and undecided about her future. Her parents weren’t happy with her wanting to sit around the house so jumped at the chance of our offering her a home and a small salary in exchange for helping us out. So I had quints and sort of being a mom to a teenager going. It was intertesting but turned out worth it. I think the quints made her grow up.
Oh another thing about Kate and all the matching clothes. We would never do that. It just creates a spectacle. When we go shopping we either don’t take all the kids or we separate and each take four, five, or six and the other takes the rest of them. We get enough looks that way, but nothing like the attention of ten. We wouldn’t even let the hospital release a birth announcement. We really did not want the quints treated differently from the others if we could avoid it.
I think we could have gotten the dog sooner, but we wanted to make sure the younger kids were ready as it was they were still too young for the Humane Society or the animal shelters here to let us adopt. I admit we cheated and a friend went and adopted the dog for us. We didn’t want to go to a breeder but give a rescued dog a good home. The terrier was an excellent choice. Not so big as to get on my nerves and smart enough and lively enough to handle all the kids.
I’ve seen the Kate supporters you don’t know, you can’t know, you’re just jealous, and walk in their shoes garbage. Hey, I do know pretty much what it’s like. I’ve been there six, seven, eight, or more barfing kids. It isn’t fun and it isn’t pretty, but I’ve never put one on the laundry room floor. I’ve never even considered it. What I have done is call my mother or MIL and have them send an extra housekeeper for a day, or an aunt or cousin, or them to help out. Kate can’t do that since she ran them all off so it’s her own fault if she’s stuck with it herself IMO.
But you know what I thought when I saw that episode with Joel was if the other kids had a stomach bug then why on earth was the new comforter on the bed? One of the first things we do if we think a bug is starting in the house is pull out old clothes, old blankets and sheets, and old comforters so if something gets too stained or messed up it can go to the trash. Not to mention the stash of rubber sheets in the top of the linen closet to protect the beds or the couch or even the carpet. It’s really surprising when you remember Kate was a nurse and is so organized, isn’t it?
Well it’s bedtime here as the hordes will be up early for breakfast even if it is Saturday.
Just saw the commercial for the next episode (MORE lame Q&A) and there’s definitely a puppy running around with the kids. Looked like a golden or something similar. Poor baby.
Back to cats? I LOVE reading about other people’s animals! Isn’t it amazing how different their personalities are. I would never want to have only one again. I just can’t believe anyone can say “well, it’s only an animal” when you’re upset about losing one. My three all have completely different feeding habits, sleeping places, intellects, and so many other things! Even the two who are littermates.
Ben Nevis (aka Mr. Bulimia) is the one who’s ALWAYS all over me (it’s fun to have a 12-pound long-haired cat draped around your neck when it’s 90 degrees out! – NOT) and unfortunately he gets dumped constantly when I have to get up to go to the bathroom – but he keeps coming back. I used to be able to wait it out with previous cats, but old age doesn’t allow it anymore!
Happy birthday to my boys!
Quintsmom, your posts are fascinating and a nice counterpoint to the drama of EIGHT – count ‘em – Eight Kids at Once pityfest playing on TLC.
Keep posting!
Thank you, quintsmom. It’s great to hear from somebody who “knows”.
Would you EVER talk to your DH like Kate talks to Jon.
Oh, let me answer that. From the tone of Quintsmom’s posts, the answer is:
never.
Sorry, I can only drop in once in awhile for obvious reasons. No, I’d never talk to DH the way Kate does. I can’t imagine his reaction if I tried.
