The Inexorable Passage of Time and Horrible Fallability of Memory and Impermanence
Dec 4th, 2009 by BohemianMoon
Web-Boy here.

Tiger Woods lets the wild rumpus begin… in much the wrong way.
Well, the news has broken. By now, the word of Tiger Woods offering $80 million to his wife to adhere to a revised pre-nup has spread and provided ipso facto evidence of his philandering; after all, would a man who has done nothing, and who has the financial resources to hire the best law-guns in town, worry about being punitively punished (and not exonerated) by a divorce court? It seems like such an ironic turn of events for a sports celebrity whose name coincides with pristine cleanliness and wholesome family values; indeed, Tiger Wood’s $100 million annual sponsorship empire is precedented upon his good image. Then again, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. (Separate links)
What’s your take on the scandal? Is his behavior forgiveable? Has he done more good than not? Should he be thrown to the dogs?
Enquiring Minds Want To Know

If I remember correctly, didn’t GM stop their relationship with him a few months ago? At the time I figured it was because the car industry was in such a tailspin and they were cutting costs but now I think that maybe they got wind of his behavior. I’m not sure any of this will affect his Nike or sports equipment contracts – they’re used to athletes behaving badly but I expect we won’t be seeing his face on any Wheaties boxes in the near future. I’m sure there will be some backlash against him and he’ll lose some sponsorships – big deal, he’s already got billions.
Personally, I think it’s just unforgiveable how he’s cheated on his wife but some couples are able to work past it. I won’t root for him to win golf tournaments like I used to. It’s a shame – he was such a great success story and he’s lost so many people’s respect for a little momentary pleasure.
Call me disappointed and saddened as another “hero” falls by the wayside. However, the adultery issue is between he and his wife.
I don’t want to know, nor do I need to know all of the sordid details. There is a hurt, devastated wife and 2 small, innocent children involved here. Leave them be to work it out or not, though I hope they can for the children’s sake.
In watching some of the recent events surrounding Tiger, I learned that one, supposedly 2 yrs. ago, National Enquirer was going to ‘out’ him on his transgressions, but he agreed to appear on Men’s Fitness mag. cover to keep the NE from printing that story. (MF and NE both owned by American Media + I don’t know why the big deal about appearing on MF). Second, I learned that his behaviour started ‘disintergrating’ shortly after his dad’s death in ‘06. He started swearing and throwing clubs on the golf course, and the ‘girlfriend’ of 31 mos. seems to also fall into that time frame.
Upon his dad’s death, he appears to have become another 33 y/o ‘acting out’. WHEN exactly, if ever, do some men (and women) grow up? Will we also hear from him that he was ‘tied down’ all thru his 20’s? Who does that sound like?
Web boy, you are a delight. Moon, I hope all is going well for you.
I am disappointed in Tiger Woods. When other sport figures or politicians behave in the same manner, I never give it much thought after my initial reaction: He’s a dog, what scum, etc. For some reason, I held Tiger to a higher standard. Was that naive of me or was the media doing the job it was hired to do?? Don’t know… At what point does a persons thought process say it’s okay to destroy countless lives, sully your family name, put your children in such a position. I hope his wife is a strong woman and she concentrates on her children and survives this mess. As far as Tiger is concerned…..ahh, don’t much care what happens to him.
Well, that’s just what the curious population gets when you hold someone you don’t even know to a personal set of standards. It’s none of my business or concern. It’s between him and the wife. I just hope the kids don’t get hurt during whatever process takes place next.
I’m so glad I’m not famous.
It is pretty low when you offer the woman you cheated on to please pretend we are happily married so I can keep earning these huge endorsement cheques. Elin needs to walk away with the children and find a true partner. Tiger needs therapy, likely grief counselling, to deal with the loss of his father.
I always find it fascinating how these average looking males with LOTS of money marry these stunning Barbi-doll look-a-likes and yet still screw around, looking for newer tail, never satisfied with their mates.
They have their pick of women, really don’t have to marry them – and yet, do. Have kids, live life and all along, cheat? Granted, they may have found themselves married to a living “blonde joke”, but it’s still no excuse to screw around.
In Tiger’s case, it’s even sadder if what is suspected is true. He presented a heart-felt moral stance to the public, stressing family values and good sportsmanship throughout his golfing career.
He’s had a bad year, surgery and poor golfing results – if the stress caused a martial “slip-up” that’d be one thing (still wrong, tho) but if it’s a case of him being a serial cheater (and proven) then he needs to lose more than a few endorsement deals.
If Michael Phelps could get nailed for smoking some weed at a party, then Tiger deserves some commupance, too.
Sports heroes or no – bad behavior shouldn’t be rewarded or ignored.
No, his behavior is NOT forgivable, this is not a one time mistake, this is his continuous bad entitled behavior exposed. He thought he was untouchable and had a perfect right to act like a horn toad because he’s Tiger Woods. Elin deserves 80 million plus. He’s an asshole…as most sports stars are. They think they’re God.
I have a different take on all of this. I don’t excuse Tiger Woods for his adulterous behavior at all. He chose to marry and have a family, and he owes his loyalty and faithfulness to his wife and children. However, I do have some understanding of why this has happened. People talk about the Gosselin children and other children being exposed to the world on TV, and how it may effect their lives as adults. Well, Tiger was two or three when I first saw him on The Mike Douglas show with his dad, demonstrating his golf swing. He was just a cute, little toddler with an amazing talent. That talent was groomed, as was Tiger, to be a champion, to be a winner, to be special, from that early age. There were great expectations and a public spotlight shown on him all his life. I don’t really expect Tiger Woods to be the “perfect” man, he’s always pretended to be, undamaged by growing up in the spotlight. I think, like child stars and other athletic prodigies, there has to be a psychological result from this kind of attention and training from such an early age.
I would love to see what Paul Petersen has to say about all of this.
Again, no excuses for his “transgressions,” just a personal view that shows lack of surprise that he is not the perfect guy, he was always portrayed to be.

Agree 150% with what you said. Let’s face it, he has been outed as a cheater, how they decide to handle this is their concern, not ours. Maybe the American public will soon realize that all these people they emulate are only human and prone to the same mistakes we all make.
Why is everyone so obsessed with celebrity and wealth? I think we should all reprioritize what we consider a hero…
I really don’t have that much to say about it. This is my mothers fav golfer and golden boy. She has admired him since he went pro. She has followed him with every tournament he has won. Yes she is disappointed with his actions. But she wishes people who just step away from this situation and let tiger and his family handle this together. The media needs to stay out of this. He is a very private man that is very well educated and well mannered. But yes has made some mistakes. We are not perfect we do fall into temptation. We let are temptation over come us many times. Its only the strong ones whom over come the temptation.
Tiger Woods is a flawed human being who happens to play a very, very good game of golf. He’s not some kind of god–I don’t know why we idolize sports stars and other celebrities–we can admire and appreciate their talents and skills–but that should be it.
That being said, I believe he won’t be able to get endorsements based on a “family man” image, but he will get/keep other endorsements where it does not matter.
The adultery thing is ultimately between him and his wife–but I feel bad that his children will grow up and read about this embarrassing incident someday.
Sorta OT, but I watched a half hr. of Dr. Phil this morning, and actually found it somewhat interesting and curious. It was about the book The Me Generation. It focused a lot on the high expectations many 20 somethings have, of being rich and famous for doing nothing. Amazingly, many of these young people, now get this….wanted a reality show?????????? Dr. Phil mentioned a couple of times, the concept of wanting to be ‘famous’ for doing nothing. (Slam Katie). Some of these 20 somethings’ parents were there and he asked the parent, where do you think he got this attitude of wanting something for nothing? Yes, it is/was the parents’ responsibility to teach them a work ethic, to teach that there is no such thing as a free ride, etc.
I mention it, because there does seem to be this sense of entitlement amongst some of the young people. (Tiger obviously earned his position as rich and famous for his athletic prowess on the golf course) I think ‘we’ parents have come to assume it’s our responsibility to see that our kids get a ‘free’ car, nothing required on their part, or that they get to come and go as they wish, while the parents somewhat ‘back them’ by paying the rent, or the bills for their kids who can’t keep a job (not talking about those that are laid off due to economy) cuz it ‘just wasn’t what I want’. ‘
Maybe it’s my age, but I just don’t believe in the concept of not working for something you want.
Back on topic, Pat, I’m so w/you. If I were Elin, the $$ wouldn’t keep me in a marriage that I just learned was a sham, get out while you’re still young and can hopefully meet a man that will treat you w/respect. Why waste 5-8 yrs. on something unless you believe it can be fixed? I’m sure he’ll bounce back, much like Kobe Bryant.
One more for instance that money and fame do not buy happiness. More than anything, for me, is just the fact that these people get so much publicity and more fame. I stopped putting people on pedestals a long time ago. I just hate it for all the young people who look to people like this to form their moral roadmap. He should hang his head in shame about that!
I grow weary of knowing more about celebs than I ever really wanted or cared to. WTF happened to REAL news? Will my world implode because Tiger can’t keep it in his pants? Does it rock my universe that Meredith Baxter whoever is gay or bi? Does ANYTHING in the celeb universe really affect me or is in anyway, well, important? No, no, no and hell no.
He should give her 80 million and let her walk away.
The man is a serious sex addict and needs years of therapy.
My heart goes out to his wife. She is going through hell right now.
All of these “hero gone jerk” stories make me wonder what some of our historical heroes were really like and what would have come out about them if we had internet and invasive media throughout history.
We tend to place people on pedestals because we want to believe that a hero is a 100% awesome human being who is flawless. (I realize that Tiger is not necessarily a “hero” but he’s a hero of sorts to young athletic hopefuls.
OJ was someone many people (including my oldest sister who is a football buff) idolized. He was a strong athlete and seemed to be a solid citizen…until………
It’s just sad.
I get what your saying, Linda, and in ordinary circomstances, I’d say LEAVE HIM..but, we’re talking $80 million dollars. I have no concept of that kind of money and I doubt my morals would come into play if someone was seriously offering me such a fortune.
Pat and everyone~

IDK, can one put a price on one’s dignity?
I fully admit that I don’t know the entirety of this issue, but no matter how much money they were offering, I am not sure that it would be enough for me to play housewife for my husband’s sponsor funded empire and keep my mouth shut so he can repair the (false) squeaky clean image he has made millions off of. I mean by even by trying to make a monetary deal to save is image, that alone, IMO, is treating her like a freakin’ hooker.
How much does she get if she files for divorce now? Not including child support, that is a whole ‘nother ball of wax.

Ohhhh, there is plenty on this to be sure – particularly in the political arena.
I don’t think that it is even the infidelity that is so unsavory (at least to me) – it is Woods’ and his PR spin that is. Lying to the public about the crash and taking days to make a statement. Oh and trying to buy off his wife to save his image and sponsorships.
I have read a lot that this should be a private matter. Perhaps so if it wasn’t your squeaky clean family orientated image that you have been selling for millions of dollars for years. The man has incredible talent to be sure and is a top athlete and further, is human. But lying about it, then spinning it only to make a half hearted (and real) “confession” and then try to buy your wife off, well, for me that is where the disdain and distaste comes in.
It is kind of like Clinton. Why he had to lie about it was beyond me. He would hardly be the first US President in history to get nooky from an intern or others in the Oval Office – or even get caught doing so. He should have just fessed up and dealt with the fall out instead of lying to the American people.
It is the lying that I can’t stand.
How shall I put this? Tiger Woods was supposed to be a stand up guy, family man, etc. We watched him win, win, win. We saw him with his father. We appreciated his craft. We wanted him to succeed and he did. He married, had children, had an upstanding life…….IN THE PRESS. He’s still just a man. I never saw him preach, lecture or portray anything outside of what he did, which was golf. He was a family man because that’s what we expected. THAT’S WHAT WE EXPECTED!! He had everything in this world going for him and we wanted him to be perfect. WOW…..what expectations we have. I wouldn’t dare cast expectations like that on people I actually know!
I guess what I’m trying to say is this. We made him a super hero. He played a damn, fucking good game of golf. That’s ALL he did. He’s in the news because we put him there. He has done nothing else spectacular in his life except having two beautiful children.
Now, you take someone like Mel Gibson. I was IN LOVE with Mel Gibson. My husband used to call him his competition. I followed everything he did. As time went on he put himself out there as some kind of religious SUPER FREAK who had the answers to everything because he was old-time, original Catholic. You don’t do this and you don’t do that and you HATE THE JEWS! That’s when I got off the Mel train. I was soooo disgusted. Then, while he’s still married he get’s some sweet young thing pregnant. Ignorant, self-righteous, contradictory, cluster-fuck.
So, after all this…….Tiger never put himself out there as anything but what he is….he plays golf. He’s been screwing chicks. He has a marital problem. He is not a super hero. We, the public need to let him fix this himself.
Seriously, 80 million dollars. Seriously. That’s a shit load of “dignity.”

This is true. However, then I do wonder why he felt the need to publicly apologize and further, buy off his wife. If he was never selling any morals or family values, then why bother? Why worry about your sponsors? Why worry about it at all?
Perhaps because there is millions of dollars at stake? Like it or not, IMO, his squeaky clean image of a family man made him as much money as his golf talent.
That’s true, Moon. But, we are a nation of nosy people. If someone is in the limelight, be it in sports, movies, TV or anything else that puts their name out there, we feel we have a right to judge. I always felt I had a right to question and criticize Jon and Kate because there were innocent kids being exploited by selfish parents but the Tiger Woods thing is a problem between him and his wife. He can’t keep it in his pants. He’s not my husband. Not my problem.
I never saw Tiger as being a spokesperson for clean, honest living. I just saw him as someone who was really, really, really good at golf.
What bothers me is someone spouting off about one thing and then doing another. Contradiction gives me a rash. Maybe I haven’t been following Tiger like some, because I’m not interested in golf, but I just think this domestic situation has gone way too far publicly.
Joanna ~
I don’t agree with you. There are very few people I’ve ever considered a hero. Some people are extremely talented but that doesn’t make them heroes. Only makes them good at their trade/ talent. I never put Tiger on a pedestal or considered him a super hero (in my mind). Only looked at him as a super golfer who makes lots of money … married w/ kids. Personally I don’t care what he does for extracurricular activities. What I do have a problem with is guys (and any women) who are out whoring around when they are married. You want someone different – GET A DIVORCE FIRST. Then do what ever you want. And that is why I really hope Elin takes him for every dollar she can get. He all by himself has destroyed the lives of his family. Personally I think she’s a fool if she takes him back, but that’s up to her. Just hope she has him decontaminated first because for the past five years she has been sleeping with every whore he slept with and everyone they slept with.
Pat~
Seriously, 80 million dollars. Seriously. That’s a shit load of “dignity.”
ROFL! I hear ya! I just wonder if it is worth all those more millions to play a game for a few years – staying in a marriage that is a sham. Maybe it is to her. Maybe they will work it out and all will be fuzzy bunnies and rainbows for their future and they can cha-cha-ching to happily ever after.
Me? I would rather call my own shots, write a damn book, make my own millions and be done with him. Assuming, of course, that there are no fuzzy bunnies or rainbows to be found
I never liked Tiger Woods, especially in the last few years. His arrogance was too much. He seemed to whore himself out for every endorsement possible, and seemed in love with himself. I did not like how he acted on the golf course (cursing, etc.) and his treatment of Phil Mickelson was despicible.
So, I was not surprised by all of this. Especially with his attempt to cover up what happened – I agree with the poster who said its the LIES… Does he think the public is stupid? I mean, to tell us his wife was courageously dragging him out of the SUV to save his life? That she smashed the window to extricate him from the car? Please!
The ego, the ego , the ego.. I admit I am enjoying all of this, sorry.

Some of this country’s Founding Fathers owned slaves and had children by this slaves while married – it was certainly acceptable back then – see Thomas Jefferson.
Wonder how long the Founding Fathers would’ve lasted if they had to deal with ROL, Extra, Inside Edition, paps, etc.

Yep, I can relate
Maybe I haven’t been following Tiger like some, because I’m not interested in golf, but I just think this domestic situation has gone way too far publicly.
And this is the crux, I believe. Why was this not the Woods’ attitude, or at least Tiger’s? Why didn’t he just come out and state that it was a domestic dispute and we are working on it privately instead of the silence and then spin?
Further, I would also say that while it should be private, he is a public figure that has made a billion dollars off his sponsorships. People buy those products because of his endorsements, or at least partly so. right or wrong. Does he not owe his public/fans anything for their loyalty to him and the products he is selling? The fact now is that his public knows that he is a womanizer and adulterer. It may not matter to some, and to some it may make all the difference. Apparently it matters to his image makers because they are scrambling now and trying to buy off his wife, you know? There are millions at stake and if his actions didn’t matter, why the spin and scramble?
I’m not surprised by the cheating. I am surprised that we haven’t heard about it years earlier. I’ve read that Tiger’s security/management team is extraordinary which is why the cheating wasn’t discovered sooner.
I am glad that Elin “went ghetto” on Tiger and started swinging. On one of the tabloid websites I read that the entry way of their home was damaged and Tiger’s face was cut/bruised and that’s why the police were stone walled. So it had to be one helluva argument.
Imagine how Elin must feel – her husband’s management team knows he has girlfriends on the side and they don’t mention it to her. Talk about feeling betrayed and humiliated. It seems like Elin is married to the corporation called Tiger Woods and not a husband/person.
Pat and Moon….
Pat, I could ALMOST agree w/you about the money situation, but I’ve read that she herself is from money, Her father is (or was) a radio journalist and her mom a politician. I’m sure that’s nothing compared to the $$ Tiger’s providing her with, but I doubt she’d be needing to apply for food stamps either were she to leave him. While I know their kids are young, I would think there would be (has been) a totally different atmosphere in the home. Just not sure I’d want my kids thinking this is what a marriage is supposed to be.

I read that supposedly the cops weren’t allowed in, because the house itself showed signs of an argument….but he obviously would have had cuts and bruises, as a result of the accident. BTW, I also read he accused his wife of ruining Thanksgiving (both moms were at the house when this took place). IF that’s true, to me that speaks volumes about ‘how’ he was most likely going to handle this, had the accident not happened.
Good Morning Moon: I hope your dental procedures are going well.
Guess I’m from the old school – I’d rather have a baby than go to a
dentist.
Isn’t it ironic – eons ago, I routed for Tiger when he was the underdog, then as time passed he became more arrogant and
entitled and lost interest. How interesting, we can parallel this to the Gosselins. In the beginning they were fresh and interesting but then developed an attitude. The more money they made, they
more delusional – felt the world owes them. In the end, both will be somewhat poorer. Since Tiger has made $1 billion, that $80m
is just a drop. Future behavior is documented by the past -
doubt if Elin can reconstitue Tiger.
P.S. Would love to see Preesi download the current rag sheets.
Thanks again.
In the famous words of my husband. ” Tiger needs to keep his pecker in his pants.”
The “mistresses” involved do not get a pass from me – they put women in a bad light as well. They knew Tiger was married and were willing to be quiet whilst reaping the financial benefits of being with the man. Now, when it is all out in the open they want their payday from the tabloids so they are “telling all”. They make me want to vomit.
It’s actually good to read these types of comments, as compared to the local one’s I’m seeing in the Chicagoland area where I live. I’ve been stunned to read and hear on news shows how MANY people are give Tiger a pass on the affair – as if to say “oh well, we all have a few affairs in the first few years – no big deal”. WHAT??? Please don’t take this as a negatively racist comment, but it comes more from african/american Chicagoans than caucasion, latino, asian, euro and all other Chicagoans put together. This guy is BIG here. BIG BIG BIG. Much has to do with how he wants kids to play the game, and to be allowed to play no matter what their financial and racial circumstances are. Tiger has done a lot to break down the “old boy” golf scenario’s wherever he can for all races, sexes and ages. I don’t care for his personality – never did. I appreciate his “everyone can play” efforts, but I’ve always thought him a pompous ass.
Now, having said all that, I have to admit I was stunned at his indiscretions as I really thought he’d be committed to his wife and family. And I’m equally as shocked as my local response of “oh well – he’s Tiger Woods! He can do whateve he wants!” Actually, he has been someone who seemed like there was nothing he could not do. Golf, weight train, discipline like few others can claim, the beautiful wife, beautiful kids, edorsements up the ying yang, spokeperson for anything he wanted to speak about. But just because you are the most popular man in America does not mean you get to strike a blow at (and get away with it) what in this country is still a treasured institution: The family. To me, this transcends his golf game because HE’S more than just his golf game! I really do not think his sexual antics would be in the spotlight at all (or bother me at all) were he not a relative newlywed with 2 small kids!!!
He doesn’t “owe” anyone an explanation. He owes God and his family and apology and true remorse – even if the marriage dissolves. He placed himself in the role of “role model” when he took on the whole “kids golf” movement. I personally feel people who place themselves in the role of “role models ” should be held accountable to the oaths and promised they make. If his wife were OK with him catting around she wouldn’t have bashed his car with the club (which I totally LOVE!!!! – reminds me of the Elaine Viets books!). Apparently he started cheating years ago – he should have removed himself from the role of husband if he couldn’t “win shooting at least a par” in that game. Sheesh!
As far the the 80 mil – it appears he’s offering her that so she doesn’t sue him for the billions???? That’s gotta be the only reason I can see. I’d tell her sue for the billions, chicita!!
Unfortunately, our society (starts in Jr/Sr high school) puts sport’s champions, rock stars, politicians, media whores, etc. (men in particular) up on that pedestal from which they fall. The power of celebrity status, excessive cash, and the allure of groupies throwing themselves at them is too much temptation in the garden of limelight. The groupie fan thing is one of the biggest hazards of celebrity: if they are not trying to hurt you they are trying to be that special someone to you. How pathetic these people are that they need a celebrity in their life to even feel special. I find it ironic that one of the women in Tiger’s case (and in others) ran to an attorney. They are not victims here. They knowingly had a relationship with a rich, well-known, married person and I doubt it was for love but more about their sick obsession. If he left his wife for one of them though, I doubt they would then turn him away. Nothing-new here folks it will continue to happen again and again.
The biggest calamity in all this is the HUGE, overtop, more than I wanted to know, media attention the incident (though I may have enjoyed seeing that weasel run for his life as his wife was chasing him) and his liaisons have received. Are we really so concerned? I for one am thinking what is the big deal ? … move on already! Now let’s get back to the couple that crashed the White House, these are two (fame hounds) I’d like to see fried!
Great comments–I don’t know what I’d do in Elin Woods’ situation, I might’ve brandished a golf club, too (although I’m usually nonviolent and confrontational). It’s the lies that would get me. Listen, if a couple has some sort of “arrangement” or “understanding”–that’s their business–not that I would agree with it. However, its seems due to Mrs. Woods’ reaction that Tiger has been lying to her–perhaps even telling her she’s “crazy” or “overreacting.” Then, she finds out it IS true–he’s been cheating; not with one, but alledgedly multiple partners. Yeah, I might snap, too.
Pat #22–LOL You crack me up!
ooops I meant “NONconfrontational!”
I can never understand why we call athletes “hero”. I would certainly say he (and others who excel at a sport) are brilliant athletes (or musicians, etc.) but I don’t know why the “hero” label is applied. Maybe he is a golf hero but what does that have to do with his character? Baffles me.
This thing with Tiger really does not surprise me. I have my own views on this one. There is a difference between forgiving and moving forward when you have been cheated on once and then trying to go forward with a serial cheater/sex addict. Things are very good in my marriage now with a baby coming and everything else, however that was not the case in 2002. My darling hubs cheated on me. I wanted to kill him, leave him and hug him all at the same time. No one really knows what they will do until they actually are in that situation. It’s damn hard forgiving and moving on with ONE transgression. This guy has parked his peen in a lot of garages and I would NOT be able to get past that. If Tiger and Elin stay together people will always question if she did for the money versus love etc. I am glad I am not in that situation with a high profile athlete and my life playing out in the tabloids. They have two adorable children together that will suffer as well. I think I would have already had my lawyer boot his ass out and would get my money and move on. I think he will just get better at hiding his cheating and having them sign confidentiality contracts with money involved. I have absolutely zero respect for him. It has been fun to rub this in my MIL’s face as she thinks Tiger was the “golden child”.
And I agree with dollface. I get sick of hearing athletes get called “heroes”. Puhleeeze.
OK, I just thinking here…hoping it comes out coherent!
We Americans idolize sports talent. But, the sports industries do not do enough to educate and groom their stars to be decent human beings (and yes, they do have programs!). All these men hear are “you are GREAT!” We hand them a fist full of money. They turn into super heroes in their own minds.
I don’t want to know the details of the Tiger story – it just isn’t my business. Now, if Tiger’s sponsors want to know more because of all of the money they have paid him (any of those contracts have a morals clause??), so be it.
Here is another question: why do men think that people will not find out when their winky goes wandering??? (and, I do not mean to imply that women do not wander, but we have read fewer scandals related to women wandering) How do you trust other people that much (the other parties involved, the security force that is keeping it quiet, etc)?
koopdedoo
and, I do not mean to imply that women do not wander, but we have read fewer scandals related to women wandering
______________________________________________________
Well, all of these women who “wandered” with Tiger are coming out of the woodwork now. They are just as guilty as Tiger.
I have to slightly disagree with #44–yes, the women who Tiger Woods “wandered” with are wrong for being with a married man. However, and this just my opinion, they were not the ones who made a vow to Elin to be faithful. Tiger made the vow–he broke it. If Elin (or any cheated-on spouse) is angry, they should direct the anger where it belongs–at their cheating spouse. Because if it wasn’t with those three (or four or more?) women, it would’ve been with others. Not sayin’ it’s OK to be with a married man–just that the married man/woman is the cheater. The “other” party in adultery made no vow or promise to the injured spouse.
Dunwoody Mom: well, yes, they committed adultery with a married man…but, they never took a vow with Mrs. Woods. They are not the women I meant (read Meg Ryan (her affair with Russell Crowe)). I agree with lisamarie’s explanation immediately below your comment to me.
Interesting reading the comments re pro & con.
Remember the movie – I believe it was “Same Time Next Year”
with Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyne(?) maybe thirty years ago.
For old times sake, friends met once a year for a weekend. Wonder how many today’s relationships use this premise. I always thought this was a result of rekindling at class reunions.
Guess Tigers success is from others making the arrangements, paying the bills with corporate credit cards etc.
However, and this just my opinion, they were not the ones who made a vow to Elin to be faithful.

I’m sorry, but just because these women did not make a “vow” to Elin in no way excuses their goings-on with a married man. Quite honestly, I’m surprised that the normally intelligent posters on this board seem to be believe that the whores, and yes that is what they are, involved with Tiger are not “as guility”.
Opening comment from Joel McHale on The Soup – Tiger Woods beat out Jon Gosselin this wk. as biggest douche bag, he wins an Ed Hardy t-shirt! LOL

This thing with Tiger really does not surprise me. I have my own views on this one. There is a difference between forgiving and moving forward when you have been cheated on once and then trying to go forward with a serial cheater/sex addict
~~
I agree. One of my g/friends from years ago, finally after her husband had had 3 affairs over the course of their 20 yr. marriage, finally left him. It has to be painful to deal w/one affair, imagine 3, heck he was ‘cheating’ on his mistress w/another mistress. Bottom line, I don’t care what they do, unfortunately, it’s just another 2 children who will suffer the collateral damage. That’s the worse part.

Q: What’s the difference between a golf ball and an SUV…?
A: Tiger can drive a golf ball more than 300 yards.
I don’t give women who sleep with married men a pass. It’s wrong. However, my comment was meant for those that blame the “other woman/man” instead of focusing their anger at their cheating mate. Too often, I’ve seen women get into “cat fights” over a man. If the other woman doesn’t even know you, she has not cheated on you, is what I meant. Now, it’s a whole ‘nother ball of wax if the other woman is/was a friend or relative of yours–THEN it is a huge betrayal of trust.
In my opinion, the woman who knowingly sleeps with a married man is doing herself harm as well. She’s cheapening herself, and at best, playing second, third, or fourth fiddle to a man. But the blame for cheating, IMO, rests squarely on the shoulders of the cheating spouse. A serial cheater will find someone to cheat with–he/she will lie (say they are getting divorced or have on open marriage, say they are not married, etc.) or they will hire a paid prostitute.
But the blame for cheating, IMO, rests squarely on the shoulders of the cheating spouse

So, you are saying the these women, who deliberately and knowingly hooked up with a married man with 2 children have no blame in this situation? Wow……..

They’re just ‘doing their jobs’. They’re ‘guilty’, but not because they hooked up w/Tiger, it’s because they’re willing to sell themselves to any guy that has the $$. It’s Tiger’s ‘job’ to be faithful to his wife. He made a promise, they didn’t. The only reason these skanks are being sought out by the media, is in the hopes of them spilling more slacious tidbits.
We’ll have to agree to diagree, Dunwoody Mom. As I said in my post –it’s WRONG, but it’s not “cheating,” IMO.
I agree that hooking up with a married man is wrong, but most times the story is not as black and white as that.
dollface~
I can never understand why we call athletes “hero”. I would certainly say he (and others who excel at a sport) are brilliant athletes (or musicians, etc.) but I don’t know why the “hero” label is applied. Maybe he is a golf hero but what does that have to do with his character? Baffles me.
I totally agree!
MonicaW42~
Sorry you went through that, and I am happy to hear that you and Hubs were able to move past his indiscretion.
This guy has parked his peen in a lot of garages and I would NOT be able to get past that.
BWAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA! Thanks, I needed that. LOVE IT!
I could not get past it either in my situation, and knew that it would happen again and again and I moved the hell on. It is a truly painful thing. I am happy to hear that you and hubs have established a healthy trust in your relationship – yours survived and sounds as though it is now thriving
Kudos. It is a very, very hard thing to do

Here is another question: why do men think that people will not find out when their winky goes wandering???
OMG, bwahhahahahahah! Another good one!
I think that part of it is the still prevalent attitude that “boys will be boys” as well a code among some of the male gender that “was goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. I am not saying that it is right at all, but I think that this is a part of it.
lisamarie and everyone~
I have to agree with this. Now if Tiger’s (or any other man or woman) flings were cheating on their significant others while swinging from the chandeliers with him, then I would say as well that they were wandering. If, however, they were not in a committed relationship, then they are not guilty of cheating on that other, but they are guilty of carrying on with the married man and helping with the demise of his marriage.
There is an onus on both, but if they were not themselves in a committed relationship, I would not call it cheating on their part – except for cheating on their own self worth, dignity and morals. But then again, many, many women go with married men, it is definitely more common than people think or it should be. My husband talks to a few on a daily basis in his work. Ask Pat (Dirty Disher) she will tell you. She reads tarot professionally – I am sure she has heard it all as well as I did when I was reading (which is one of the reasons that I don’t read much any more – I could not handle all the infidelity day in and day out).
Dunwoody Mom~
I’m sorry, but just because these women did not make a “vow” to Elin in no way excuses their goings-on with a married man. Quite honestly, I’m surprised that the normally intelligent posters on this board seem to be believe that the whores, and yes that is what they are, involved with Tiger are not “as guilty”.
I think that they are just as guilty, but in a different way. The total onus in this situation is really on Tiger Woods. He took a vow before God, his family and friends to love and honor this woman. Now we all know that things go bad in relationships and in marriages. If it can’t be fixed – it can’t be fixed, particularly if there is mental or physical abuse involved. To be clear, I obviously don’t know about abuse of any kind in this relationship, however, I feel if he is trying to buy his wife’s silence, then I would say that some mental abuse may be a factor in their relationship. That said, if their relationship cannot be fixed, then get separated and then divorced and move on with your life, but spare your spouse the humiliation of (many) indiscretions.
Now as I said above, if the other women were in committed relationships themselves and were cheating on their significant others while playing ring around the “rosie” with Mr. Wood (y) – then they are guilty of infidelity to their partner and selves. But they are not, IMO, guilty of cheating if they were not in an established relationship – except, as I stated previously, on themselves and their self worth.
The very fact that these women are, as you said Dunwoody, “whores”, would lead one to believe that, perhaps they do not put a high price on morals, virtue and integrity. Why would anyone ‘expect’ these women to be discerning in their choice of men? They’re in it for the money. Mrs. Woods should have been able to trust her husband implicitly, to honor her and in turn their children.
Tiger had the same choice any other man, husband and father does when confronted with temptation, be faithful to his wife with whom he took a vow to do just that, or not. He made his choice. IMO, he’s just another ’spoiled’ little rich kid, that thought he was entitled and that the rules didn’t apply to him.
Discussing why women choose the life of a prostitute is another discussion.
well i cant say i am surprised ,golfers have to do something in their spare time. it still dosent make it right but it explanes a lot about golfers
When the story first broke I said not Tiger – he is never out in clubs, bars etc…He did a VERY good job in keeping his life private. Guess he just had people around him that he was paying VERY good money to keep their mouths shut. He obvioulsy was at all these places with other celebs but paid enough to stay out of the limelight?? That is the part I don’t get – Do I believe he had affairs I sure do – with all the women? not sure…..Someone at sometime would of seen him at a “club” in Vegas etc doing something inappropriate. That is the thing we never even got a tabloid shot of him ANYWHERE!!! I personally think he is screwed – NO ONE take offense to this but he isn’t’ a football or basketball player where this is “expected” and I don’t mean that word per se – more like where we are not as shocked. Golf is though mainstream still a somewhat “snobby” sport – there isn’t a ton of scandal. Shoot he plays in Augusta which had it’s first black member in 1990 and still doesn’t allow women. Shoot…I don’t blame the guy for playing the tournament it’s a huge deal but it just proves Golf is still an uppity sport. Will people support him and follow him sure but I think he can expect some boos if he ever plays again – well deserved boos in my opinion. But then again (in reference to the PETA post) Look at Michael Vick – though not the star he was and not with the endorsements he had he is playing again so who knows. My heart goes out to his wife and if it’s true they are paying big bucks to the paps to get photos of Elin and the kids – FU PAPS! Leave them alone!! That is something they obviously worked hard to keep out of the media!! KIDS ARE NOT FAIR GAME!!! TIGER SCREW YOU! I hope the paps annoy the hell out of you. Don’t act all greater than thou and then pull this crap. Yes, is this a family matter but you could walk away from the spotlight tomorrow and be comfortable for the rest of your life if you really love your family. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO REHAB for sex addiction – PLEASE DON’T BE THAT CELEBRITY!!!
Last thing sorry – in reference to the “women” he has been with…they are all coming out now to get their “piece of the pie” that is what bothers me. If they had a thing with him last month, last year, 3 years ago why is it NOW they are coming out?? that is what makes them “whores” as they were referenced as early! It was like one story broke and all these women said Oh Shit I am going to tell my story I need some cash also – I will not be out done. According to some of these woman it was more than a “hookup” but a relationship – if that was true that would not screw him over just for the money. Obviously they never cared about him at all. WHAT HE DID IS WRONG! The women who slept with him WERE WRONG!! but what they are doing now is just DISGUSTINGLY WRONG! 15 minutes is up …………….
I’ve followed Tiger since his first pro tournament and have always been in awe of his talents on the golf course. I guess I could say I was disappointed and dismayed to learn of his ‘transgressions’ as I looked at him as infallable – completely unfair to Tiger, as he’s human like the rest of us. I wish Elin and Tiger all the best – whether it is as husband and wife or apart – whatever is the best for their children and themselves.
BUT — what’s with these women coming out of the woodwork with their stories that they had affairs with Tiger? Is that something to be proud of or to publicize? I could understand if they were ‘outed’ by a tabloid but a couple of these girls came out with their stories on their own. Are they doing this in hopes he’ll pay them off? I think it’s a bit too late for that, though since they’ve already told their stories. I just don’t understand why a woman would come forward with admissions like this. Is it for fame, do they need the publicity for their careers, what do they hope to gain from admissions of an affair with a married father of 2 young children?

I just read (on Khatedar, so ??) that Elin, wife of Tiger has moved out of the house.
How sad!
I’m proud of her! I hope she took the kids! Apparently she wasn’t getting good ‘vibes’ from their twice a day counseling sessions. I’m really sorry for her and her kids…
Did anyone see this? I thought it was funny…SNL skit from Saturday’s show!

#69 Linda-
I saw it and peed my pants!!!
Hilariously Hilarious!!!!!
I have a tangle of thoughts- first and foremost being—-
We have no right to expect to know this type of private information!
Nor do I think he should he be vilified as a hypocrite for accepting sponsors and advertising gigs counter to his current actions. He never promoted abstinence, monogamy or family values. His ads were for golf clubs and cars.
And now the following remarks are not an excuse for his actions, and will royally piss some people off, but I offer them as things to think about.
He’s an alpha male. Which makes him driven, which makes him want to attack and win everything he does including golf. He could have been the best at …fill in the blank.
As an alpha male he’s driven by testosterone. That’s a biological fact. All men are driven by testosterone although to varying degrees. Sex is a different drive for men than for women. They have much less invested in sex , than women because they spend no time in gestation, childbirth, breastfeeding, or child rearing.
Women throw themselves at good looking men, particularly when they are famous and rich. And Tiger is Mega rich. As in the first billionaire athlete.
He’s young. So not likely to make great decisions. No offenses to young people but…
He spends a lot of time away from home where he is presented with a lot of opportunities to stray.
David strayed, Solomon strayed, Samson strayed and these men we consider heroes.
I am not excusing either Tiger or his playmates. In fact I have less tolerance for his cohorts. Personally, I may have pulled a Loeana Babbit by now. I admire Elin a great deal. She has shown tremendous grace under what must be unrelenting media stalking.
I wish them all well.

NTS, first, he became a spokesperson for these companies before he was outted as a serial cheater. BTW, Gatorade dropped him already and kudos to them, I’d also guess there will be more to follow.
Second, are you saying that Ms. Woods should not have expected her husband to be faithful? She should have expected him to succumb to, what is it now, 10 women’s advances? Am I understanding you correctly? If so, it just doesn’t seem like much of a testament to marriage.

Most importantly I don’t think this is any of our business.
He may lose many endorsements, but I do not see the duplicity in Tiger Woods promos, that I see in cheaters like Ensign, or the governor of South Carolina. Both those men used publicly claimed adherence to “family” values , and great love and affection for their wives and children to bolster their reputations, increasing their voter appeal. THEN they contradicted those claims by cheating on their spouses. And lying to prevent the information from going public:. In this case the public were voting citizens with an investment in these men so that coverup was an additional failure of conduct. Tiger Woods did not make any such claims or endorse any products specifically aligned with family values.
If I were married to Tiger Woods, I would expect him to remain faithful and resist temptation. I am sure his wife did too. I offered the post as reasons why what happened, did happen. Not an excuse for his behavior, or to say that his cheating was inevitable-nor to suggest his wife should have seen it coming, IMO, you do all you can to mitigate every potentially harmful situation in any marriage; mine, your, or theirs. And I have no idea what he or she did to alleviate any marital stresses prior to this “outing.” Maybe the guys a cad! I don’t know. But I just don’t want to jump on any wagon without a lot of thought. And this blog draws interested, intelligent posters, so I put it out there.
Please understand I am not giving the man a pass. He blew up his family. But there are always things to learn from these lurid stories, as sad as they might be.

(Disclaimer, if this is scattered, my thoughts are not coming out cohesively??)
I agree, that as elected officials, the gov. and the senator should be under intense scrutiny. But, shouldn’t fans who have helped put Tiger where he is, also be afforded some explanation? You’re also correct that Tiger made no claims of endorsing family values. Perhaps I’m just naive, but unless he and his wife had some agreement between them re: an open marriage, the fact that he proposed to her and married her, IS pretty much an ‘endorsement’ of marriage/family values. If he didn’t believe in monogamy, then stay single. While I don’t know all the products Tiger endorses, other than Gatorade (withdrawn), Nike and Gillette, I’m guessing a part of why he was sought out to promote these products, in addition to his golfing skills, was because he did have a squeaky clean image. He is yet one more sports figure, that young people look up to. I don’t feel as if Tiger owes “me” an explanation, but surely he owes something to his fans. In addition to his amazing golf skills, they helped put him where he is, just as the voters put Sanford and Ensign where they are. Again, please understand I totally support saving a marriage, even if there has been an affair, but 10 women thus far, is unacceptable. I also realize that some of these women may be lying.
I understood the views you were offering up evidence of how this could have happened, I guess I just don’t ‘buy’ into the whole alpha male, heightened testerone production = a possible reason for straying. Would that not be akin to stating that a woman who was dressed in a somewhat provocative manner, was the reason she was raped?
Linda~
I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.
I think I ordered my comments incorrectly. I should have stopped after the testosterone= alpha male, let a few others post, then continued, because I did not intend to link testosterone to cheating, but to his dominence in the sport he chose to play.
What followed after that, were just the situations I think lead him to cheat. But none of what I posted was meant to excuse him.
I see no corelation between women dressing provocatively and being wrongly accused of asking to be raped, and Tiger’s behavoir, or any mans cheating.
IMO, the industries that went after Tiger Woods as a spokeperson did so because he was the first billionaire athlete, with enormous name recognition not because of a skeaky clean image. If that were a pre-requisite to endorsements, legions of athletes would never see a penny of add revenue. And they do. Think NBA for instance.
And I’m not so sure the fans really put Tiger Woods where he is. With all due respect, the world of golf owes Tiger Woods more than Tiger Woods owes golf. His level of play has increased the fan base, not the other way around.
Gotta go…I need to catch a bus home from school.
Do any of you really believe any male celeb is truly faithful? I don’t. I would be more surprised to hear of someone not screwing around, these days. Many female celebs probably cheat often, too.
There are ultimately no real consequences, so why not do it? My ex did, devastating me & our 4 children, and we’re living practically in poverty while he & the “other woman” have their dream life…new house, new car, new baby, moved to another state where he’s always wanted to live, lots of traveling, and no responsibilities to the 1st 4 children he made. He’s been nothing but rewarded for his bad behavior while the kids & I are left behind, paying a steep price.
At least Tiger’s wife will never have to worry about money, and she can focus on being a good mom & rebuilding her life instead of being stuck trying to figure out how she’s going to make it til her next paycheck. Tiger’s smashed up Escalade with golf club dents all over it is still worth more than the minivan with no heat that I’m driving my kids around in, with 0 degree temperatures!
Meant to say, worth ten times more than my minivan.
