Amen.. This needs to go to court with the gosselins. This has been proven that not just a few of us are against this whole exploiting children. But many people are against this. It has open up many eyes and ears on the hurt, psychological damage, backlash, lies, deceit/denial etc.. I hope that this gets to Kate/Jon, TLC, and the lawyers. I stand by this 100%.. Found the royal draft to be interesting reading. As long as you want my opinion,
, here goes. Found the opening to be somewhat dated. Found it odd that the tabloids were cited. I disliked the citations taking up half the page, but on the other hand, the info from Kid Nation was eye opening in itself.

IMO, a copy of this should be on the desk of both the divorce judge and the judge presiding over the TLC law suit.

Ms. Royal has nailed it perfectly! I agree that this should be sent to the presiding judges of both the Greedslin divorce and The Leprosy Channel’s lawsuit. Until federal legislation is enacted, children have no protection at all from parents and the public who make them into circus acts. At this point in time, the very least that idiot Judge Tilson could do is appoint a guardian ad litem for the little G’s. I have not heard anywhere that he has. Maybe we should print out this document and mail it to him.

That, to me, says everything that’s been wrong with kids on reality tv. They are not your kids – wouldn’t you feel creeped out if someone said something like that about yours? They are also not zoo animals, even if their parents agree to let you do it, you have no right to watch another person’s life play out.
I hope this article gets wide attention to help bring a spotlight on this problem.

This is an excellent paper and hopefully will ignite enough interest among lawmakers to start a move toward changing the legislation regarding minors on reality television shows.
She brings up “Kid Nation”, a show involving children that was so horrifying I could not even watch the commercials for it. It was pure child abuse. What the parents of Kid Nation did is no different from what Jon and Kate did. They put their children in precarious, demeaning situations in order to achieve fame and in some cases make money. I would not be at all surprised if Jon and Kate did not sign a similar contract that involved a clause relieving TLC of any responsibility if the Gosselin children were injured or killed during filming. This must be par for the course for any reality television show contract.
I do believe that when reality programming started, particularly with the awful Ozzie Osbourne show in which their two “entitled” children dropped out of school and partied relentlessly with suggestions of heavy drug and alcohol abuse (and Sharon was SO surprised to learn of the drug use later!) , television producers had no idea just how quickly the common person can become a fame whore who wants more and more publicity. These people get one dose of seeing themselves on television and become addicted, even when this includes selling their children like the Gosselins did. And now we’ve reached the disgusting point where a low rent couple like the Salahis go to the extent of illegally entering The White House in order to get a spot on the DC Housewives franchise.
Now we know what reality television does to a person. In order to become a “reality star” one must stand out and standing out usually means having terrible manners, being only self serving, fighting, being terribly mean to someone (ala Kate toward Jon and her children), using bad language, exploiting your children (Denise Richards/Tori Spelling) or just being an jerk in general. Therefore, we need laws to at least protect the children of the Heenes, Gosselins and SuperNannys of the world.
Think about this: have you ever seen anyone with class, and I mean true class in they way he or she conducts herself and not money (plenty of people w/o a ton of money have class), in a reality television show? I’m curious and please let me know because I can’t think of one person. Because people with class, substance and grace don’t air dirty laundry and act low class in public. The “countess” on NYC Housewives may SAY she is classy but she isn’t because someone with class would not ever brag on television, not to mention in public, about her so called royal credentials.
High School students in NYC who have class would not be caught dead on NYC Prep.
So please let me know who you consider to have class in any past or present reality show.

Jon at least acknowledges that the only reason they are “famous” is for having 8 kids. It’s shameful the lengths that paps will go to to get “the goods” on someone, i.e. having your wife dress up as a prostitute. This whole debacle concerning the Gosselins has really opened my eyes as far as all these paparazzi pics we see. My guess is that few of the innuendos produced by these pictures have very little basis in reality.

Merette – she is. Their show is on Style. Frankly, it’s one of the few shows that I can watch (of this type) without wanting to heave a shoe thru the screen.
It’s sweet and sometimes silly and watching the two of them interact with each other and friends and family is pure pleasure.

Cynthia, I too enjoy the show, but I was a little put off when Julianna announced to the young girl in the shop (can’t remember what kind of shop it was) that Bill’s “little dingy-dingies don’t swim so good” when they were talking about having babies. I would think a man wouldn’t be ‘happy’ having his wife say that to a perfect stranger…I wonder if some cracks will appear when it comes time to decide (finally) where they’ll live, Chicago or LA.

In an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com after the deposition Glassman had only harsh words for Jon and called him “a monster.”
She was the third witness deposed by TLC in their breach of contract lawsuit against the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star.

Then when the check came, Michael wouldn’t give it to me because he said that Jon owed his father [Mark Heller] money and he wanted me to sign my check over to Jon. It was the most ridiculous thing in the world. To this day, Mike Heller has my check from October.”

As usual, fact-checking goes out the window with the media. I mean, REALLY, why should we believe anything the media writes when they get their info from tabloids. Case-in-point: Jon was NOT laid off due to health insurance coverage. This would be ILLEGAL and they would have grounds to sue, which they haven’t. As per Jon’s boss, Jon was terminated for not showing up for work, and when he did, trying to drum up freebies on the internet. The Discovery Channel did NOT approach the Gosselins until after they made a video and shopped it to various stations. This is per Kate. I’m sure there are more non-facts in the article but I was so annoyed at people who claim to be reporters that do not do their homework, I jumped right in to comments. EARN YOUR PAY and do fact-checking before presenting something as fact.”

Against my better judgement, I just went and watched the video on ROL.
Is it just me or does anybody else think she has some cheat sheets in front of her so she doesn’t lose her place in her “story?” Notice how she keeps glancing down at something. As soon as she starts to stumble on something, it looks like ROL edits and comes back. There’s still something fishy about this whole Jon and Hailey story. The show is OVER. Isn’t it time for them to all STFU and go away?

Jon Gosselin has been at the center of the public eye for a good part of the year.
(CNN) — Out of all the headline-grabbing celebrities this year, HLN’s “Showbiz Tonight” has chosen Jon Gosselin as the most provocative.
Gosselin was crowned the winner from a competitive pool that included former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, singer Chris Brown, disgraced beauty queen Carrie Prejean and Michael Jackson.
“Jon Gosselin was the tabloid train-wreck gift who just kept on giving!” said “Showbiz Tonight” senior executive producer David Levine. “It was almost like he was begging for attention. Divorce Kate? Check. Date the 22-year old daughter of your wife’s plastic surgeon? Check. Consider doing another reality show with fellow train-wreck Michael Lohan? Check. It was almost like he was writing the script for the eventual TV movie about his life.”
“Showbiz Tonight’s” most provocative celebrity is chosen on the basis of who generated the most continuous shock and interest throughout 2009 and which celebrity’s very name sparked a visceral reaction in the general public.
Jon Gosselin, who rose to fame as the embattled husband on the reality television show, “Jon & Kate Plus Eight,” fulfilled all of those criteria and then some this year.
It was announced in June that Jon and his wife Kate would be separating following rumors of strife in their marriage. The June 22 show, on which the pair announced they were separating, drew 10.6 million viewers — record ratings for its network, TLC.
Jon dominated tabloid news coverage over the summer with his bad boy behavior, dating a string of younger women and being photographed in New York nightclubs.
But what really put Jon Gosselin over the top, according to “Showbiz Tonight,” was not just his ability to remain in the news, but also his willingness to tell all, including a series of eyebrow-raising answers to questions about his separation and impending divorce and his new relationship with girlfriend Hailey Glassman.
Gosselin told ABC’s Chris Cuomo that he “despised” his estranged wife Kate and described in graphic detail how he felt about Glassman, who he had only been dating for a few months.
“Love her,” Gosselin told Cuomo. “Huge word. It’s like when you look at her my heart pounds. I get sweaty. I feel like I love her more.”
Gosselin certainly was provocative in 2009, but does he have the staying power to keep his name in the headlines? That is a question for 2010.

Great paper by Ms. Royal. I was wondering when someone in the acedemic world would write about this. I think she makes a good case for Federal regulations, rather than relying on each state to enact its own legislation. It’s not going to be easy or quick, however. Some people stand to lose a lot of money if the filming of children in reality shows is regulated. Also, many people/states object to the idea of more Federal regulation on principle.
As for the bogus ROL thing–WTH? Hailey says she was told “under oath” that Jon and Kate Major slept together? No on EVER lies, under oath? Everyone in court ALWAYS tells the truth? Ha. Also, why would TLC care who Jon slept with AFTER he was separated from his wife and said wife had filed for divorce? How is that relevant to the case?
It would be great if we could all email the paper by Ms. Royal to our Senators and Congress men and women. Maybe we could start getting the ball rolling on this issue. IMO, it’s going to take a grassroots effort to protect these children. The entertainment industry and their lawyers will fight it to the end.

Finally some good news for Jon and Kate Gosselin – it appears the couple has finally sold their original Pennsylvania home for around $325,000, Radar Online.com has learned.
The Jon & Kate Plus 8 reality couple had been trying to sell the 5 bedroom 2.5 bath home in Elizabethtown, Pa, since March 2009.
A spokesman from local realtors Brownstone Real Estate
confirmed to RadarOnline.com that the property was off the market and under contract – if everything proceeds then the deal should go through in the next four to six weeks.
The embattled couple – who are currently going through a messy divorce – bought the property for $280,000 in 2006.
On season four, of Jon & Kate Plus Eight an episode showed contractors getting the house in tip-top shape – including removing lighting that had been installed for filming purposes – before it went up for sale. The home is in a suburban neighborhood where the houses are built fairly close together on approximately 1/3-acre lots.
It’s a family-friendly area where kids ride bikes, skateboard and play outside when the weather is warm.
But it wasn’t always a peaceful place for the family of 10 – former neighbors say that curious fans often drove by the Gosselin’s house to gawk.
Last fall, the Gosselins moved into a $1.1 million, 6,000-square-foot home in Wernersville, Pa. The closing for the 5-bedroom, 5.5 bath home was on Oct. 23, 2008, records show.
Unlike their old house, the family now has plenty of privacy – the nearly 24-acre property is fenced in and has a metal gate at the end of the driveway, about a half mile from the front door.
The couple is still to decide what to do with their current home once their divorce is finalized.

Wow… Kate is going on about the kids crying again about the show ending on the BW interview. According to ET, they all cried on the way home from school the other day. These kids seriously need therapy, any child who has that kind of attachment to a camera crew, has other issues going on. Anyone who thinks its good to continue to film is beyond clueless.
That woman is just a moron. Why would you go on and on about the kids being “devastated” that the show is over? Doesn’t that tell you something right there? Even if they were actors in a sitcom, they shouldn’t be that upset over a cancellation. As adults, J&K should have always stressed to the kids that they were on a tv show and that ALL tv shows end at some point. To not have prepared your kids for that eventuality is just cruel.

It’s been what….about 1 year since the house went on the market? I wonder if there was some clause that if the house didn’t sell that a certain tv network would purchase it to take it off of J&K’s hands. It will be interesting to see IF the new owner is listed by personal name or by a company or trust. Verrrry interesting, especially the timing — and time of year for a house to sell.

Not even a month after “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ took its final bow, Kate Gosselin is spotted with a camera crew in tow.
Raleigh, NC local news station WRAL is reporting that the reality show mom spent three hours at a local restaurant called Finch’s serving food as cameras were on hand to capture her every move.
Gosselin’s longtime bodyguard, Steve Neild, told a WRAL reporter that they were shooting a test segment for a future program and then asked the reporter to leave the eatery.

ROL has changed the $325K figure to “around $300,000.” I just checked.
I looked up Finch’s and it’s a local, breakfast and lunch type of diner. It serves traditional southern-type of breakfasts and lunches. Hmmm..not a “healthy” organic type of place. And really, what’s up with Steve and shooing away reporters? Wouldn’t they want free publicity? TLC has a mini-gestapo in Steve?
As for Kate saying the kids cried when they missed the camera crew–didn’t the crew change throughout the filming of the show? I thought I read some crew members went on to other work/shows. Why doesn’t anyone ask how the kids reacted when Jodi and Kevin and Beth were dropped from their lives? She should stop blabbing about the children’s emotional lives at any rate.
I agree with the above comments–they should have been prepared that the show would not last forever–no show lasts forever anyway. Even if TLC stretched the show out for another year–the crew would’ve eventually left. Something is not right with that woman (Kate) and her so-called “parenting skills.” She should be more concerned about family and real friends (not the Neilds, who are technically on the payroll) in her children’s lives.
Children sometimes pick up their emotional cues from parents–I bet Kate has been crying about the show ending. She most likely has not been putting a positive spin on it for the children.

One thing I can say about the “Kate” talk on the View today is that most of them have changed their attitudes about her – it’s no longer “hey, girlfriend, how ya doin?” nonsense – particularly from that dumbell, Sherri Shepard.
They also showed a quick byte from WaWa’s show – Katie no longer has the bristle brush attached to the back of her head!
I don’t think that’s Snaktero in the snow pictures. This is the other nanny that ‘resembles’ her but this nanny is actually prettier, with softer features.

Thanks Linda! I’m full of snark since Kate has the nerve to say the kids are crying for the cameras and crew. What about Aunt Jodi and Uncle Kevin? What about their COUSINS? What about Beth, Bob and their kids? No, Kate is concerned because the kids miss the PAID HELP. The people that were PAID to be around her kids. THOSE are the people she’s concerned with. NOT the people who actually loved her children. No. they are history. No tears for them or the dogs. Just the fucking crew.
So if anyone here cares to watch Barbara interview Kate tomorrow night, pay attention if the hair flap has reappeared and if it’s covering her ear. Recently she’s been wearing her hair behind both ears. There’s no doubt in my mind that TLC called the shots with The View and Barbara to have Kate interviewed. Just another opportunity to get Kate’s face out there particularily if there will be a show next spring.
I also read somewhere that the older folks that were at Kate’s house on Thanksgiving were either Steve’s parents or in-laws. Wow, complete strangers in her house but the real grandparents aren’t invited.
It is strange timing that the Andrews Ave. house sold before the divorce is final. There’s no way that anyone, unless they live in a cave, would pay anywhere near the asking price considering how much homes have depreciated and the impending divorce. Can’t wait to find out if the buyers are regular folks or the sale is disguised under some attorney’s name (TLC).

Oh, geez. I just saw a clip on ET of Wawa’s interview w/Kate and Wawa says “I asked her if she was scared and she got choked up.” So, whomever predicted Kate would cry during the interview —- you’re right! I also noticed what appeared to be a soft filter used during the interview – similar to the way others have done when trying to create a certain mood for her. UGH. I won’t be watching, that’s for sure.

I have always felt that Kate would come out on top. Not because she deserves to, heaven forbid, but because she just keeps on getting exactly what she wants. I cannot understand how it keeps happening, but she keeps winning every time. Her massive ego will continue to get stroked. TLC is the most evil company I have ever seen. They are behind all this, they have decided Kate will be their star and by gosh, whatever it takes they will make it happen. I wonder what it would take to cause them all to finally take the fall they so richly deserve. But I seriously think Kate will wind up on top and with tons of money and fame. No losing her house, cars, perks, freebies and fame. I hope I am wrong, but I just feel this is what will happen with her.
I don’t think that Kate is going to last much longer. She’ll get some interest in new show, people will watch to see what it’s like, but I can’t see her continuing to get that big of a following. It sounds like it’s a take off of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Kate ain’t no Guy Fiorri(sp?). I think that tons of people have already forgotten about Kate, the only reason she’s in the news is because TLC owns/or pays ROL to keep her on there. Of course, this is just my little ole opinion.

Barbara Walter’s “most fascinating people” list is really pathetic and so transparent. These are people who had the most outrageous and overdone media coverage – in no way are they “fascinating”. I’ll bet even the WH “crashers” would have made the list if their little “act” had occurred earlier. I’m sure we would come up with a much more valid and impressive list of the most fascinating in 2009.
My local morning show just talked about K being on BW’s list and how K says that the kids are suffering due to the lack of cameras. Bob (the male anchor) said “see she was being a good mom with the cameras there, the kids wanted them” and Annette (the female anchor) said sort of under her breath “I couldn’t stand that show”. I knew there was a reason I like this morning show. Although I still don’t like the “around town” reporter.
Obviously with the NBC/TLC interview of Kate, the networks and the cable companies are all in bed with each other. I bet all of Barbara’s picks did not come from Barbara. Barbara is no longer a credible journalist and I wish that she would just retire.
I was surfing channels this morning, and lo and behold TLC was airing the original show introducing the Gosselins. I just cannot get over how much Kate’s physical appearance and personality have changed and, dare I say it, Jon was endearing (I remember thinking what a lucky woman she was to have such a helpful husband). This was the show that captured viewers’ hearts, even mine, until the greed kicked in. Truly, the Gosselins sold their souls to the devil. Don’t be surprised if the Duggars are not what they seem.

I think that everything is healing well and that is important of course and what we want – I wasn’t prepared emotionally for it, I don’t think, and I have been in a definite weird space. I have cried a lot – which is not like me.
Moon, I know this sounds weird but isn’t their a connection between losing ones teeth in a dream and said person’s emotional well being? I wonder if psychologically you are feeling like you’ve lost something?
Also, I know I felt depressed/odd/strange after my gallbladder surgery …the anesthesia screwed with my head for a couple of weeks afterwards

A lot.
